This beer hits every right spot for me. Perfect carbonation, perfect amount of barrel, not too boozy. This was my 1457th beer and perhaps one of my top ten ever. I hope they release more of this in their archive sales. I will buy all I can. (244 characters)

Bottle into a Bruery snifter.

A: Dark reddish brown with a substantial frothy reddish beige head rising an inch above the liquid. It looks creamy as if sits there for a few minutes.

S: A decadent nose, as expected, with caramel, chocolate, and vanilla. Oak attempts to push back the sweetness, but it barrels ahead, undeterred, with a harmonious barrage of brown sugar and port-like dark fruit notes that lays waste to the hollow defenses. The wood's spirit is broken, but its redolence lingers. There are notes of grape and plum skins with a bit of prune in there as well. An alcohol sting penetrates the nostrils.

T: Plum blends with grape, chocolate, caramel, leather, and oak. Tobacco is a welcome addition. There's an upper low to lower medium level of bitterness that blends with oak and tannins, and this helps to offset the sweetness a bit. There's that same dark fruit skin note here that I found in the nose and it augments the impression of bitterness. The finish is brown sugary sweet with caramel, port notes, bitter unripe plum skins, and oak.

M: Full body with upper medium carbonation. Sticky mouthfeel with alcohol warming. This is tannic and dry as well.

Overall: A nice beer. I think some time will allow the bitterness and alcohol to fade a bit and the flavors to meld. It's quite good now, but I'll save my other bottle for another year as I expect it to improve. (1,402 characters)

Pours darker than the bourbon varient - dark murky ruby/dark brown, minimal to zero beige head. Aroma of huge brandy - dark fruits, apple skin, cherry, booze - some of the dank mustiness of the old ale as well as some cocoa. Strong boozy oak and some vanilla. Taste is very vibrant - strong brandy fruits, vanilla, caramel, molasses and some chocolate - more impressive than the aroma. Mouthfeel is perfect - full, creamy little-to-no carbonation.

Outstanding. Very different from the bourbon and drinking wonderfully right now. (530 characters)

750 mL bottle poured into a taster.

Appearance - Deep brown with a surprisingly large head. Thick khaki collar.

Smell - Brandy is strong. Apple aroma. Caramel and booze.

Taste - And it's just like smell. Sweet, brandy liquor flavor. Caramel. Boozy. Rich.

Mouthfeel - Boozy as hell. Sweet and diabetic.

Overall - I'm always a sucker for these beers. Very sweet and I don't love the brandy barrel, though. (409 characters)
