Split with JLindros and shared with Threelions.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown hue with a one finger head that fades to leave light lacing.

S - Aromas of sweet malts, caramel, alcohol hidden well did not smell like 15%. Very nice rye whiskey too!

T - Taste is caramel, vanilla, malty sweetness, awesome rye barrel, molasses, light dark fruit. Heavy rolo, toffee and nice sweet malts. Delicious caramel sweetness and barrel notes.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, to be expected, not that syrupy.

O - Overall this beer was very tasty, great sweetness, awesome barrel notes, good rye, very sweet, delicious.

I appreciated that Stakem shared this with me, enjoyed chilled from a taster glass.

The color is dark murky brown with thin very light beige head with tiny bead no lace sticks. The smell is mostly dark sugar caramel and light yeast ester with dried fruit however the rye barrel does impart a nice earthy woody and slight boozy aroma. The feel is full with moderately low carbonation yet not really a cloying sweetness-just has the dark malt and toffee sweetness with a drying alcohol in the finish.

The flavor is great, lots of malt complexity with the yeast adding depth with some caramel and woody flavor in the middle and light vanilla with some gentle alcohol and raisin-like flavor in the finish. The barrel is nice and is well blended with the base I think it does not taste hot, alhouth you can taste the alcohol it is not over the top. Overall a great Old ale and the barrel aging enhances this-So thankful for the opportunity to try it, thanks Adam.

750ml pours a clouded mahogany color with a few khaki bubbles that rest atop. A swirl revives a cap that is quick to fade but alcohol legs stick to the glass.

The smell is initially oaky with sugary sweet caramel, vanilla and oak that blends to a dark fruited aspect similar to raison and molasses. The alcohol in this version seems tempered quite a bit in comparison to the others.

The taste brings some boozy heat upfront with that previously mentioned raison and raw oakiness towards the back. Inbetween are flavors of molasses, vanilla and caramel that sort of blend the transition from booze to harsh oak.

This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is quite boozy in the feel yet much more restrained than the bourbon version. Having drank 4 versions of this back to back, this one did not scream rye to me. However, id probably place it in the top 2 of the variations I have tried for its nuance and overall well blended character.
