Notes/Commercial Description:
Beauregarde is our first ever use of blueberries and we couldn't be happier with how this beer turned out. We added an incredible amount of fruit to our barrel aged, sour blonde ale and the result is just as expected. A lovely shade of reddish purple with flavors of tart blueberries, just in time for summer. Perfect along side a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

First batch (2013). Tulip glass.

A: Pours mostly reddish with a slight purple tint, like a dark rose, with a half finger of pink hued head. Retention is so-so and eventually the head completely dissipates. No lacing to speak of.

S: Blueberry, a little blackberry and wine, slight funk, copious sourness.

T: Moderate-high sourness, blueberry and a little grape juice, with a moderately long finish. Not as full flavored as it could be.

M: Mouthpuckering, with a little burn in the esophagus. Medium-light body and medium carbonation.

O: A little one note-y, with almost no complexity evident on the palate and no evident oak influence. It needs a little funk or oak or other fruit flavors to balance what’s there.

Pours a light purple with pinkish edges held up to the light. Little carbonation and barely any lacing. smell is acidic and vinegar with very mild fruit notes. The taste is similar to the taste. The sourness and tartness of the beer are overwhelming for the blueberry flavors. Blueberry takes a back seat but really comes in at the finish. Mouthfeel is pretty dry with light-med body. Overall, a good beer but I was really hoping for more out of this offering.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 750 mL bomber into a Brooklyn Brewery snifter glass.

A: Purplish pinkish red, fairly hazy, with streams of bubbles running up the sides of the glass. It tries to form a thin white head during the pour, but it fades almost instantly.

S: Tart, lactic, funky and a bit of barnyard, berry fruitiness, citrus (lemons). Sour with a moderate acetic quality, and dry tannins.

T: Significantly sour and tart, blueberries (I would have also said blackberries), and tons of lactic acid character. Then a lemony citrus sour bite, funk, barnyard and feet, and dry oak tannins. Very acidic and dry on the finish and on my lower esophagus. The fruitiness here is natural-tasting, and quite pleasant.

M: Medium to light body. Carbonation sensation on the low side but not flat, and the alcohol is very well-hidden.

O: This was very good, but quite acidic. As much as I enjoyed it, I don't think I could drink more than a glass in one sitting. But I'm looking forward to the couple of other bottles I've got in the cellar. Not a sour for a beginner, but very recommended.

Pours grapefruit pink. No head, minute lacing. Very pretty color.

Scent is typical funk sour with a fruit kick - yum.

Lemon/lime, maybe a tad bit of blueberries. Lots of that lactic.

Spritzy mouthfeel with light carbonation. Sour is medium/high.

A solid sour with a unique fruity thing going on. Different from a lot of sours with the blueberry element.
