Join us in excitement as we release the winning brew from our Batch #1000 homebrew contest - Bryeian! Hard to believe that we've brewed 1,000+ batches of beer and for those who have been with us throughout the years, probably surprising to see that the winner is a hoppy ale! A cascadian, dark rye ale to be exact. Brian Pramov and Bryan Keas, a pair of homebrewers from Denver put together this winning recipe for us and it shined brightly in our competition. The roast of the dark malts, the spice of the rye and the intense hop character combine for a fantastic experience.

Split with rudzud as usual. Again American Black Ale not really my fav style, but we'll see how this goes.

Huge creamy head of 2 fingers, foamy, fades semi slowly with lots of soapy lacing, pretty much pitch black semi thick beer.

Nose nice dark malts, little roasty and tin, hint bready yeast, caramel and dark choc. Hops are a plenty, floral, fruity, little citrus, bit earthy spicy, candy hops, green grassy wet hay hop, dank, then some rye, lots of rye and pumpernickel bread.

Taste starts with more rye and bitter hops, earthy spicy hops, little fruity with hint citrus. Rye and dark bready malts bring pumpernickle bread, light spicy rye and spicy hop. Some sweet malts, light caramel, little roast, hint choc, little bready dough. Finish is dry and sticky, long semi bitter earthy spicy hop, fair bitterness, little dark grainy malt and rye. 3

Mouth is fuller bod, little syrupy, nice carb.

Overall not bad, decent malt and hop balance even for a black ipa, nice rye component that really shines through, hops aren't the best but not too bad. (1,056 characters)

Appearance - dark black with great lacing on the beer. Lots of chocolate colored head

Smell - rich malt flavor and lots of hops!

Taste - chocolate with a hop finish

Mouthfeel - ends quite bitter but nicely carbonated

Overall - this was a fun novelty beer by the bruery. Nothing special, but stil tasty (306 characters)

750 ml capped bottle. Bottled 8/7/13.

Served chilled into a goblet.

Batch 1000 is a very dark brown ale with thick bone white head. It has great retention, settling very slowly, and leaving some nice lacing behind.

Aroma is a very enjoyable combination of citrusy hops and a sweet vanilla.

Flavor is hoppy but balanced with a sweet roasty malt body. It has great bitterness from the abundant hopping but also from the dark malts. The rye provides a pleasant spice and pumpernickel bread character.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely carbonated. Balanced and enjoyable.

Overall a very enjoyable beer. Cheers to the home brewers in Denver who one this prestigious competition. They deserved it. (701 characters)
