Notes/Commercial Description:
Evan Kleiman, host of KCRW's Good Food, was inspired to collaborate with Patrick Rue and The Bruery after enjoying a homemade Rhubarb Raspberry Pie. The rhubarb's fruity sourness tempered with the sweetness of the fresh raspberries and the wheat crust, begged to be bottled up in the form of a bubbly beer. Keeping the original pie recipe in mind, specialty grains were chosen to mimic the crust, and rhubarb and raspberries were used in varying stages of the brewing and fermentation process. The resulting beer is reminiscent of a fresh country pie, cooling on a farmhouse windowsill.

On-tap at Beachwood I,

A: Pours a vibrant fuschia to dark magenta with a medium rocky white head, some solid head retention.

S: Pie like with some crust notes and raspberries.

T: Delicious, sweet raspberry and rhubarb come through; it really does taste like liquid pie which is impressive. Very well done.

M: Medium to full-bodied with a moderate acidity. Certainly does not feel like a beer over 10%.

O: One of the better new brews from these guys in a while, glad it showed up at Sour Fest, well worth a purchase.

I'm surprised that Mischief has a higher rating than this beer. I put this beer on par with Goose Island's Lolita (though Lolita is the superior beer, in my opinion).

A A nice brightness to this one--deep raspberry red with a hint of an almost purple hue. Very pretty.
S Strong raspberry on the nose--sweet and sour sugar
T Fairly tart, though not abrasive. Sweet raspberry undercut by rhubarb and sweet malt
M Fairly carbonated, though I think a higher carbonation level lends itself to the drinkability of this style
O I was very impressed with this beer. Surprisingly drinkable. Beautiful in its simplicity. A classic pairing of flavors.
