Pours a beige head with some nice lacing. Color is an amber copper.
Aroma: red ale meets bourbon. Grapefruit and hop resin citrus. Very juicy. Still pretty malty. Complex.
Taste: lots of bourbon and oak. Lots of juicy hops and citrus. Vanilla with some malts.
Mouthfeel: smooth but some bitterness. Medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Ends sticky.
Overall, very unique but very tasty. So much going on with this beer. I recommend this one!

- Huge light tan head.. many fingers over a very dark red/brown brew that is mostly clear. Slowly settled down to lace stuck all about the glass, and a thin 1/8" layer just resting. Very nice looking brew.
- Nice zesty citrus zing, light lemon, grapefruit.. all along a lightly toasty caramel malt, and subtle vanilla notes. Bit earthy and grassy as well. Some alcohol and liquor notes certainly present.
- Certainly a hoppy number. Lot's of zesty citrus and grassy hops here.. somewhat roasted caramel touch, and bready husky grain. Grain bill actually seems somewhat light, and is in great harmony with the barrel wood, and bourbon notes. Certainly a nice bourbon vanilla kick. Overall not bad, and is rather bitter. Little medicinal and sharp with alcohol.
Mouth Feel: (3.5)
- Lighter bodied than I had expected, though still a medium bodied brew. Certainly drying from the bittering hops.. slightly chewy, and puckering. Kind of zaps the tongue with a zesty, spicy, herbal flare.
- The beer is certainly good, but a bit messy as of yet. I am guessing this beer would really come together over time, and perhaps even develop some better body. The hops may calm down a bit, and the vanilla oak notes would really come forward while calming down the medicinal alcohol character. But a very good beer, and the price of roughly $13 for a 750ml bottle is quite nice.

750mL bottle from Wholefoods@Bend. #202 of 2600. Reviewed from notes.
Dark mahogany with a hulking, moderately dense saffron-coloured head. Subsides over a couple of minutes leaving sparse lace trails and a slightly raised ring.
Dried banana chips, dark fruits, vanilla and oak. There's an inkling of earthy hop bitterness, but overall both hopsa nd malt struggle to penetrate.
Oak, fennel and raisins dominate. Some resinous, spearminty bitterness builds over the course and there's also a mild sweatiness, but overall it's a bourbon fest and the hop character is mostly undifferentiated greenness.
Fairly modest body for 10%. Pleasant spritzy carbonation leads into a moderately stripping bitterness with decent length.
Some promising aspects but the barrel character is overbearing to the detriment of the hop and malt bill. I anticipate this would have been much more rounded if enjoyed fresher.

750 ml bottle poured into Dechutes snifter. Bottle 2114 of 2600.
A- Pours a dark red with a humongous khaki head. The head retention is fantastic. Lacing is average at best.
S- Wow. The juicy fruit and citrus aroma is very unexpected. Grapefruit, orange, pineapple and lemon all burst out to appeal to my inner hop head. Toasty malts and toffee with just a touch of oak balance out the aroma. As the beer warms, more of the barrel qualities become apparent.
T- Initially, my palate is hit with citrus and grassy hops. A noticeable amount of caramel notes. As the you come to the middle of the sip, the flavor becomes toasty and slightly bready. I wasn't sure how the barrel aging was going to affect the beer as a whole. Well it plays in nicely. The usual suspects of bourbon, oak and vanilla finish everything out. Faint hints of alcohol.
M- Medium body with moderate carbonation. Mouthfell has some warmth from the alcohol. The finish is a tad thin.
O- Overall, I thought this was a really solid beer. Too be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this beer. But I was pleasantly surprised. A nice hop profile, serviceable malts and bourbon barrel qualities blend better than expected. Give this one a shot. Some aging could make bring this beer to the next level.

Bottle number 1312.
A - Dark deep red with a huge explosive light tan head. Great retention and lacing.
S - Very hoppy and citrusy.
T - Sweet ripe fruit, hop citrus, an alcohol burn.
D - Lots of carbonation with an lighter body.
O - Very hot and hoppy, needs time to mellow out a bit.

A: poured a reddish brown in color with yellow highlights and half finger of head that left a little bubbly lacing sticking to the glass.
S: the aroma was pretty sweet upfront consisting of malty sweetness, hints of vanilla, bourbon barrel character is coming through a little with some citrus, a little hoppy, subtle booze and caramel notes.
T: the hoppiness was more a more apparent on the flavor alongisde citrusy bitterness, malty sweetness with good balance, very nice bourbon barrel accents that added some dimension, a touch of vanilla, caramel and mild underlying booze.
M; the brew was medium in body with a fair amount of carbonation which had a citrusy, sweet, mild hoppy, light booze and slightly bitter finish.
O: I thought it was pretty solid and really enjoyed the bourbon vanilla character in the taste.

Bottle #1491/2600. Pours a dark copper red color with a light tan head that coasters on top. Banana, barrel, and hops. Medium mouthfeel. Nice lace. Hoppy but yet sweet at the same time. Resinous, some grapefruit. Oaky, vanilla notes. Seems this opens up nicely as it warms a bit.

Poured a dark brown/mahogany colour. The head slowly dissipates with light lacing. murky in appearance.
Smells sweet, caramel notes. Though I dont have the best nose it is very appealing. Smells deep. Nothing over the top. I would have expected more bourbon notes as they are light though that appeals to my taste as I dont like a strong bourbon smell. If I wanted that I would drink whiskey.
Slightly bitter on the front, caramel, sweet, bourbon in the middle, warming. Roasted flavor afterwards. Very smooth, no biting. Alcohol is not over present.
Very smooth mouth feel, malty and full.
Overall though not the most complex beer I have had it is a great warming winter ale. I would expect this to age well.

Poured from a corked finished bottle into a snifter style glass.
Pours and dark red color with a nice white head.
First smell is of heavy bourbon notes maybe a hint of cherry.
After a couple of drinks I could taste some hops and a strong bourbon finish but, not overwhelming.
Beer was very drinkable for 10% ABV, and not "hot" for only being bottled about a mont ago.
Very good beer but not great, look forward to some more tweaks by the boys in Bend in the future in the new brewery.

What a bitch to get the cork out of this bottle! Had to snap the cork in two and use a corkscrew. Finally got this one to pop. Thanks to Brian for my Portland, Oregon haul.

Poured into a snifter glass with a finger and a half of chalky tan head with decent lacing. The beer looks dark brown with some toffee-colored highlights from the tilted glass. 3.5
Immediate whiff of sweet bourbon came dashing at me after the bottle popped. And, with my nose deep in the bowl of the glass, that's the dominant aroma. Musty bourbon, barrel wood, toffee malts, red grapefruit hops, some blood orange, and a heap of alcohol heat rising like a desert mirage. A little bit overpowered by the whiskey, but still juicy. 3.5
Very woody bourbon character with loads of heat. Some pink and red fruit juiciness underneath layers of whiskey, vanilla, caramel, and toasted malt grains. Tastes like I have a few oak chips stuffed in my cheeks. Slight astringent character from the raw woodiness. Still caramelly sweet and hot in heat. The hops may have faded slightly from what would be a fresher bottle (no dating that I can see), but this works as a citrusy imperial red with heavy barrel aging and balsa wood, vanilla, and caramel syrup yields. The alcohol is spicy in the end. 4.0
I like the huge barrel aging on this one, but the mouthfeel suffers from the booziness. Medium-thick body, light carbonation. 3.0
Many big barrel beers fall out of favor with me because of the huge bourbon notes that can detract from a quality base beer. This one is different. The ridiculous woody whiskey notes appeal to me. The grapefruit/orange hops are there and keep it within the style. I imagine this to be an okay imperial red without the eight months of age, but 10 Barrel wrapped this one up well. Plus one on the rich vanilla notes. 4.0

taste - a big slob of brutal malt and alcohol, some nice malt complexity
mouthfeel - big body, strong carbonation
overall - not what i expected, overly strong, seems experimental, not sure what to say about it, disappointed

Bottle 2425, shared with buddy, poured into wine tumblers.
Big issues getting the cork out, had to use a corkscrew. Finger and a half light brown head, slow dissipation with ok lacing over deep amber with garnet note clear body, no visible carbonation due to dark hue. Malty nose, mainly crystal, some biscuit, the hop aroma has really subsided over time. Taste mirrors nose, malt forward, though some light vanilla notes and bourbon became more prevalent as it warmed, citrus and piney hops pushed to background, this probably would have been more hoppy at an earlier age. Mouthfeel is medium, pretty good effervescence. While the barrel aging might have helped mellow this out a bit, should have drank sooner to experience the hop bill, which was pretty much gone, despite careful (refrigerated since acquisition) handling.
