12oz bottle served cold into a shaker pint glass.

Hop Project #91 is a very dark brown color with good clarity and thin off-white head. A small bit of sediment is unexpected so it ends up in the glass. The head settles quickly and leaves a perfect layer of lace behind.

Aroma is hoppy but not overly so. There's good balance here between hops and malt.

The same goes for the flavor which is balanced and well made. It has an assertive taste with big hops and dark malts. There is a slight char to the malt which plays well with the earthy grassy hops.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely carbonated.

Overall a really good black IPA but not as hoppy in aroma and flavor as expected.

Paid $2 at Brewforia Meridian for the 12oz bottle... Dark tan head piles up close to 2"... Incredible retention and sheets of lace drape the entire glass... the brew is pitch black.

The nose is about what you expect for a PNW CDA... resinous piney hops mesh well with some light coffee maltiness and a bit of something that I perceive as dark fruitiness.

Good balance between the malts and hops... malts are light roasty/espresso bean and minor cocoa quality... hops are big and resinous.. clingy piney hoppiness lingers and only relents on the tail end of the palate to the dark malts... the bitterness trails on and on... Everything fights and then makes friends.

Body is medium ... with a good carbonation.. still a bit of a creamy mouthfeel.

Really liking this one.

Poured into a Dogfish Head pint glass. Pours a very dark ruddy brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass. Half finger light brown head with good retention and light lacing. Nice aroma of piney hops, citrus, light chocolate and toasted malt. Flavor is classic Cascadian dark ale; piney, somewhat herbal hops, mild toasted and bready malt, light hints of pear and apple, finishing with bright very nice pine hops, slightly herbal. Great balance between malt and hops, really tasty. Medium bodied with some creaminess. My second Hop Project and so far, very impressed. Excellent.

A: Pitch-black pour with an enormous fluffy chocolate-milk colored head. Head retention is amazing, it's only dissipated halfway after 5 minutes. Huge island of foam in the center. Almost a solid wall of lacing left behind with lots of spiderwebbing.

S: Tropical fruits abound. Sweet and juicy mango, apricot, pineapple. Lots of orange too. Sweet chocolate from the roasted malt pokes through.

T: Initially quite sweet. Again with the tropical fruits but more muted here. Lots of juicy orange and grapefruit instead. Maybe I misjudged the aroma. Chocolate and coffee from the roasted malt invades, stronger than the smell gives away. It's quite creamy in general, almost milk stout-ish. Surprising for a black IPA, usually they are thinner and drier. Sweet, smooth chocolate into the finish, almost hershey like. Lingering resinous and piney hops with some grapefruit mixed in.

M: Medium bodied, spicy and smooth.

O: A very unique black IPA. It's creamy and sweet, but loaded with hop flavors at the same time. Bitter but not overly so, nice balance of sweetness helps out. Balance of flavors is nice too. I'm a bit torn on this one due to the uniqueness, not really sure where I stand. It's very atypical but I really enjoyed it regardless.

Poured into my large Gulden Draak tulip, Hop Project #91 is black with a light tan head leaving nice foamy lace.

Smell is really pungent, dank hops, lots of herbal notes and some pine resin.

Taste is intensely resiny hop flavors with smooth dusty baker's chocolate malt . A hint of iced coffee. Fairly bitter, minerality.

Mouthfeel is dry, medium bodied.

Drinkability is high, this is the best CDA I've had by far. Super dank, the hop profile really goes well with the dark malt bill here better than the typical pineapple and rich chocolate.
