Across the street from Mount Holyoke, the Thirsty Mind is located right in the Village Commons. Although it is mainly a cafe, as of last year the place added a bar area. That bar area is at the corner with about 4 chairs at it. The place closes at 10 every night and the usuals are mostly Mt. Holyoke students or faculty. It's usually pretty quiet with some indie or jazz music playing. You can have your beverage either at the bar or at the multiple tables and few single chairs across the wooden floored cafe. Most people are either studying, hanging out or exchanging intellectual conversations. Very, very, very chill basically. I would even suggest it as a date place (many nights spent with my Mount Holyoke alum wife last year)
Little to no food; some cheese plates and of course the cafe desserts but nothing really to munch on. Service is very friendly and knowledgeable; often a person works just the bar area so they keep the coffee/cafe worker to their post. The menu is just bottles and usually range in about a dozen, but man they are all over the map. Rogue, Wachusett, Smuttynose, Brooklyn, Ayinger, Chimay, and Lindemans were the most recent drinks I saw there. Plus, if you or your friend(s) are somehow not in the mood for beer, they do have wine.
For a classy atmosphere, they do have decent prices since it is a college place. If you just want to relax away from the surrounding big hectic college towns and big loud cities, just drive to South Hadley and enjoy some drinks at the Thirsty Mind.
