22oz waxed bottle into a tulip. I really like the name and label.
A: Attractive bright copper color bordering on red with a decent white head that is easily revived with some agitation. Good looking beer.
S: Mostly caramel malt with a moderate level of floral hops.
T: First impression is that this is quite bitter, much more than expected. White grapefruit. Also some bready caramel and pale malts, but in contrast to smell, the hops are the main attraction. Not enough sweetness to balance heavy bitterness that stretches from initial taste through the finish.
M: Medium bodied, and on the lower end of the carbonation spectrum.
This is a beer that could use more balance. I'm fine with some of the big IPAs and DIPAs like Maharaja, etc. but this is lacking complexity. The hops aren't adding much outside of bitterness and completely overpower the malt. Not sure how old this bottle is, but would like to try it again knowing for sure that it is fresh. Overall, a pretty average IPA.
