Notes/Commercial Description:
Big Jamoke is an American Robust Porter named for the B-25 that Brewmaster Eric Marshall’s grandfather flew in WW II. A blend of five malts from Munich to Chocolate provide a deep mahogany color and aroma of toffee and roasted coffee. On the palate this beer is full-bodied with hints of bittersweet chocolate and toffee… while finishing smooth and dry from the addition of earthy hops.

UPDATE: Poured into a pint glass on 12/12/10. This beer is a beautiful pitch black, with a full caramel colored head. Aromas of dark fruit and rich roasted malts. Coffee and chocolate on the palate, along with some very slight alcohol. Medium bodied, very creamy texture. Lightly carbonated. A really good porter from the folks at Marshall, wish they brewed this one year-round. Need to stock up before they all disappear!

First beer from this brewery, thanks to furealz (Reddit).

A very aggressive pour still only yields a small fizzy mocha colored head that fades at a med pace, head looks like a 9-10% abv kinda beer, touches of lacing, over a dark almost pitch black beer that lets a bit of mahogany light through the thin parts.

NOse is about what I expected, some darker malts, little cocoa and dusty chocolate powder, a couple layers of caramel, mild earthiness and touches of earthy hop, bit of fluffy chocolate nougat and caramel candy bar like, touch of minerality and hint of coffee.

Taste starts with more dark malts, hint of roasted black malt but not really burnt or roasty, dry cocoa mix and chocolate malt, little biscuity dark malt that eventually turns to a little char, more varying caramel flavors, light and dark, with a bit more fluffy chocolate nougat, but not sweet at all. More earthy hops kick in with a little chewy hop and fair bitterness. Finish is again very dry as the entire beer was, mild roasty flavor lingering with some earthy hops, more dried cocoa, and little caramel, spicy hops start to take over later on the finish and get fairly bitter.

Mouth is med to fuller bod with a very dry feel, nice fluffy carb.

Overall not bad, a decent porter that doesn't really do anything wrong, maybe just a bit too dry overall, but still enjoyable.

Pours a dark brown from the bottle with a small foamy head that dissipates reasonable quickly. Aroma is chocolate with coffee. Chocolate, coffee and malt are pretty balance, with only a bit of bitterness. Medium mouth with a decent amount of carbonation. Not a bad porter at all.

Appearance: Pours a pitch black color capped by a couple of inches of beige foam; the retention and lacing were decent but not spectacular

Smell: Black bread and chocolate; walnuts and a hint of dried dark fruit

Taste: Roasty charred black bread, up front, with chocolate flavors building into the middle; walnuts and raisins join, after the swallow, as do the earthy hops that keep the sweetness in check; well-balanced in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: This is a first class Porter; not quite Edmund Fitz, but very close

Thanks, BlueOkie, for the opportunity
