Our winter ale started as a rich, very malty brown ale with a little extra alcohol warmth and a spicy hop finish crafted from German Tettnanger hops. Then we aged it with white American oak. This gives the beer a sweet, spicy character with hints of vanilla.

A - Poured a hazy, ruby color with a one-finger, off-white head of foam. It left soapy trails of lace on the glass.
S - It smelled of oak, some vanilla and toasty notes.
T - Nice spices you'd expect in a winter ale. Light oak and vanilla notes. A toasty caramel malt presence.
M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale.
O - This is a good beer. They're brewing up some good big beers at Prison Brews.

Appearance: Opaque brown body with a thick tan head and lace with a lot of staying power.
Smell: It has very strong malt aroma with bit of spice and alcohol.
Taste: Very sweet and malty with some bit and warmth from both the alcohol and the spice.
Mouthfeel: This is a very creamy and full bodied beer that remains smooth.
Overall: My favorite beer at the Prison Brews by far. It is an awesome winter warmer and I think a growler of it would make a great gift for the holidays.
