330ml bottle, a leftover from our New Year's Eve party.
This beer pours a crystal clear medium golden yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, foamy, and fairly bubbly eggshell white head, which melts away at a rather lazy pace, leaving some decent pockmarked walls of fuzzy lace around the glass.
It smells of sweet grainy, somewhat biscuity, bready malt, a hint of overripe lemon, and mild grassy, weedy hops. The taste is muddled grainy malt, lightly toasted cereals, a bit of that ol' adjuncts' corniness, some mild apple core grittiness, and kind of dirty, grassy, dead leaf hops.
The carbonation is a little on the high side, but in a pleasant enough frothy manner, the body medium-light in weight, and with a pithy, even edgy mouthfeel, that doesn't exactly scream out abject smoothness. It finishes off-dry, with a certain strange grainy sweetness, one likely borne of corn or rice, complemented accordingly with the lingering grassy, proto-skunky hop - sort of the 'bitter beer' phenomenon railed at by Keystone and the like, I imagine.
To think that I used to drink this while at, um, places that involved consuming a formidable amount of mixed drinks (Power Hour!) before nursing beers the remainder of the evening, and this was the best option, really. Now, while not blatantly off-putting, it's not particularly enjoyable when put to this particular litmus test. I'll still finish this, in deference to those heady days where beer-tubs were a going concern for me.
