A co-worker gave me a six pack of this in gratitude for switching shifts. I had a hard time explaining what kind of beer would be nice, and she mentioned Stella, so I thought, hey why not, I need to return to my lager roots.
So I popped my first bottle, and poured it into a pint glass. The first thing I noticed was man, this smells like a brewery. It brought me back to a Saturday job I had in the old Seattle Malt and Brewing basement. Any beer that smells like a brewery, and not a model airplane glue factory, or the compost bucket, can't be all bad. So on to the taste - it's got a preponderance of bitter malt, but not strong hop flavor. I feared I would be up against another harsh Belgian farmhouse ale type, but this was rather more like putting a suit on the farmhouse ale and bringing it to the big city. Unlike the normal American standard lagers, the taste does not stick around making you wish you had an Altoid, but leaves you with a pleasant gustatory memory. This drinks real nice, and makes you want to knock back another one. It takes lager beer from a duty to a pleasure.

11.2-oz bottle into weizen glass

A - crystal-clear straw yellow body under a bubbly pure white 2-finger head; lots of carbonation bubbles at first, a few continuing to rise throughout the experience

S - grassy hops, corny malt

T - lightly-toasted cornbread with just a touch of honey, nicely balanced by the grassy bitterness of the hops; cooked corn; hint of lemon; bitter finish

M - light/medium body, high carbonation, crisp, quite refreshing

O - I'm not a fan of Euro lagers, but for the style Stella Artois is decent.

Poured into a tall flute glass. Two and half fingers of head. Clear, golden color body with lots of bubbles visible. The head quickly faded.

It smells like dry grain and rice.

Tastes like carbonated water with the mildest bitter note at the end.

Crisp and light body. Lower carbonation than I was expecting.

It is what it is.

Server in a pint glass.

Appearance: pure gold, body is light (not to heavy with bubbles) with a (white) head that rose to maybe 1/2".

Smell: light light hop smell.

Taste: creamy like your traditional marzens and I like it, granted I might be getting this because of the luxury to have this on tap. Light hop feel with no real complaints.

Mouth: medium carbonation with crisp smoothness.

Overall: easy beer to drink and like, you can give this o almost anyone and they shouldn't complain. Salud!

A: Single finger foamy white head on a bright yellow golden body. Decent lacing and retention.

S: pungent and wet sock malts. Some breads but overall light on the nose.

T: breads and pale malts. All dull tastes though a subtle sweetness is in the background but I can't tell what is producing it. No off putting flavors which is nice for this genre.

M: light body and high carbonation.

Overall: True to the style which usually isn't very good. Still drinkable and somewhat refreshing. One of the better members of the genre.
