A: poured a nice copper color with a good finger of head.

S: had an inviting kind of raisin smell to it.

T: tasted some raisins and figs along with some hops in the back. seemed sort of like a cross between an american strong ale and a barleywine.

M: has a nice medium body and just enough carbonation.

D: the heat is well hidden but this would sneak up on you if you had too many. overall i enjoyed it.

Served in a shaker pint glass.

Pours a cloudy amber-orange with a small white foamy head that leaves some decent lacing behind. The nose is mostly citrus, pine needles, and some toffee thrown in for some semblance of balance. The pine comes out heavily in the taste, backed up by a healthy dose of bitterness and an underlying malty nuttiness. The body is a hefty medium with moderate carbonation and covers the tongue a little bit thickly, though still maintaining a punctuated smoothness. Overall, a fairly drinkable strong ale.

Appeared a nice bright orange color with subtle yellow hues in my pint glass with an off-white colored head that dissipated quickly and left behind a touch of lacing. Aromas of hops, grass, and oranges seemed to come out. The taste was similar with a pronounced hop flavor that seemed somewhat distorted in that it seemed to come in add odd times during each sip and clearly dominated all other flavors. Not much complexity to this beer. A dry, bitter finish with a bubble-driven texture that seemed out-of-place. Moderate drinkability in that I would have a few but not eager to do so.

Draft at the brewery; all three beers we had poured looked exactly the same. Muddy light brown and slightly opaque, quite still. This one has a bit of a head, but not much. Hard to distinguish any aroma, either. Gristy and tart with some grindy citrus peel flavors. Very earthy. Decent enough flavors and the best of the three I treid. (#2760, 3/24/2007)

Bomber poured into Shaker pint glass. Hazy amber-gold with a small head and moderate lacing.

Smell caramel malt, small yeast and mild hop notes. A little peppery and sweet.

Hits the palate with a soothing malt, earthy flavor followed with a spicey hop & pleasing, citrusy bitterness that sticks around for a while and finishes with a mild alcohol warmth down the back of the throat. Chewy mouthfeel that leaves a staple IPA dryness.

By far the best Shenandoah (bro-in-law lives in Dupont Circle) offering I have had. A very respectable American IPA and will pick up some more when I come back to visit.
