This joint has an OK selection (Southern Tier, Affligem, Ballast Point), but Central Market down 110th is just as good (though the selection's different) with much better prices. No one seems to be around to answer questions (like "Why is this beer $3 for a single 12-oz. bottle?"), but they do seem to rotate the stock (now and then digging out something from the vaults). If you're in the neighborhood, it's a good place to grab one to sample, but not where you'd get your beer for the weekend, and certainly not worth going out of the way for.

Fabulous selection across a range of beer types - especially for what for a long time had been the friendly "corner grocery." Now that Westside Market has gone upscale in keeping with the further gentrification of Morningside Heights and South Harlem, you can find just about anything here, from Dogfish Head IPAs and Hitachino Nest Whte Ale to Schneider Weisse and Lion Stout. The only thing I could think of to round out their selection would have been some good German style doppel bocks. Downside: prices are waaaay out of line. Exhibit A: Pinkus Organic Hefe usually runs $3.99 at Bristol Farms in West Hollywood, CA. At Westside Mkt on Memorial Day Weekend 2008, the identical bottle ran $5.99. That's serious inflation!
