I decided to check this place out on the way home from Toledo. It is located at a shopping center. My buddy and I got there around noon on a Friday. We headed straight for the bar. The place had the feel on a little more upscale chain restaurant, which it is. They had for house beers on tap, a bock, a lager, an IPA, and a DIPA. I of course went for the double. It was okay as was the IPA.

I asked the bartender if the brewer had creative liberty with the beer or if the brewer just followed recipes. It was the latter that was the case. She did explain that the brewer mixed up his own blueberry purée for a blueberry lager. They just add the purée to their lager. She also explained that the had different mixes of beers to create about eight different beers for their sampler.

As far as food goes I ordered the shrimp tacos. They were excellent. I was not expecting much beer-wise out of this place, and my expectations were met. It is a good restaurant with some beers that may appeal to the novice craft drinker. It reminds me of a BJ's Brewhouse. Maumee Bay is a far better option if in the area.

Granite City is a well-known chain of restaurants, but unique (especially to the Midwest) in that they brew their own beers as well as making food. This one, located in Fallen Timbers (one of those shopping centers that's more like a small town), is no different. The vibe is nice, with good lighting, spacing (maybe slightly too much, if anything?), and dark wood accents. The food is very good, from appetizers to desserts and everything in between. The service is always good, a few times excellent but most often somewhere in between. As for beers, they serve only their own, so it's exclusive to 8 taps as far as options. They're never anything spectacular, but they're all pretty good. It's a good place to go especially for food, and the beers won't wow but they won't disappoint either.

We had diner with 5 adults and 1 child on 1-23-14.

It's open and airy with dark woods and bright lights. Clean. Not too intimate, but OK.

Beer selection was adiquate. 1 pale ale, 2 IPAs, a scottish ale, 2 lagers, and a stout. All were delicious, but nothing really special.

They offer samples if you just want to try one or two and they have the standard sampler paddle that comes with 5 regulars and 3 seasonals. It was the scottish, a belgian IPA and a two-pull of the two lager types last night.

For the non-beer drinker in the party they have plenty of other adult beverage options.

The food was very good. The menu is nocely varried. They have a large complement of gluten free options including gluten free breads for sandwiches and burgers.

We had a flatbread and a spicy glazed shrimp for starters. The spicy shrimp were a big hit.

We tried a pizza for the 6-year old, adult mac&cheese, jambalya, a gluten free burger, shrimp tacos and a steak...

Everything we chose was excelent, including the sides.

I will go back. Not so much for the beer, but for the food.

I don't know how this place can tout the name brewery. There beer is very sub-par. The food and atmosphere is great, but if your looking for a quality craft brew, do not go to Granite City Brewery. The beer that they do brew on location is not always available, and the variety consists from blending about 4 different styles. All have an exceptionally low abv, and are flavorless.
