Friar Tuck is a great place for any booze, wine or bee lover.

It is pretty large and has about equal spacing devoted to wine and liquor and then a smaller section for beer. the beer selection is by far the best ive seen in St. Louis but then again I've only live here for 4 months. they have quality Belgians and some good German stuff as well. There was a good selection of English and Scottish beers but those aren't my cup of tea.

The Domestic crafts dominate the beer section with an assortment of goodies from places this side of the MS river.

Service was non existent and the cashier was a little rude an not very friendly. I have a young face but Im 24 and some how my MO drivers license didn't meet his standards because it was brand new so he gave me a hard time.

The prices are a bit up there.

Big warehouse feel loaded with wine, beer and liquor. Easy to find employees when needing help. Great beer selection and a huge walk in cooler. The prices are bit higher than other places. Not far from my house so I do a lot of shopping there.

Sort of a big box garden variety store vibe, but the selection was outstanding. I was looking for a variety of local beer and wine. Asked one of the clerks restocking after Christmas madness and the guy practically became my personal shopper, checking his store PDA for items we couldn't find on the shelves. Their local selection could have been a little better, but I hit the place just after Christmas and it was like the grocery store bread aisle before a snow storm.

This is probably the best Friar Tuck's in the STL area. Always a good selection of Missouri and St. Louis distro, as well as St. Louis locals. Imports have a good selection as well, although beware of some of the best by dates. Staff is always willing to lend a hand. They also get some of the more limited stuff and usually do it on a first com, first serve basis.

They also have one of the best wine and whiskey (and other booze) selections in the area. There is a whole section of local Missouri wines that other places don't/rarely carry. They have good cheese and wine/beer accessories, and I never leave without a bag of Billy Goat chips!

This place is a solid option for when I'm only traveling to the western suburbs of St. Louis. It's got a large mix-a-six section. Pretty nice selection of Belgian beers and other good imports. Nice bomber/750s. Prices are okay.

Gigantic box store filled with alcohol!!! What more is there to say? They literally have everything that is available is St. Louis. Thousands of wines. Hundreds of hard liquors. At least hundreds of beers. Gotta try it if youre looking for alcohol.

They have plenty of staff available, but they arent all that attentative. I'm not saying they are bad, just not all that helpful.

They have tastings every saturday afternoon, which is a real benefit if you're looking to taste before spending $$ on something new.

No food, other than cheese, crackers, and sausages. Just a big ass liquor store.

Came here for my first time before the Cardinal game on Friday w/ GeoffTheAleMan. Upon walking in, the beer selection blew my mind! At one of the counters, there were a few limited brews (Life&limb, Mikkeller's, Sours, etc.) that interested me big time but decided I would come back to get these.

Its easy to find your way around this place and very clean. One of the beer managers was in the aisle while we were searching and helped us find what we needed in a snap of a finger.

4 LONG aisles were dedicated to beer, almost the ENTIRE back had coolers of craft beer, a walk-in cooler was in the back for customers needing BMC product, and then a Mix-A-Six pack for $9.99 was in the back left corner, and this sums up the Selection! Wow! Couldn't get much better than this!

The prices were actually the same as other Liquor Stores in St. Louis (while I've heard Friar Tuck's was a bit pricey actually...). I will be coming back to this one and/or possibly another location because of their great selection!

This is a huge store combining a very large selection of beer, wine, and liquor along with a small section of cheese and homebrewing supplies. The homebrewing supplies are limited and priced higher than other local shops, although at one point I really needed some extra hops and they were the only place that had them.
I'm not much into wine so can't comment selection or pricing, and have not been able to sample any of the cheeses, either.

From a beer store perspective, they have a large selection, usually get a good supply of the hard to get brews, too, but again seems a bit higher than other places in town.

I can pretty much copy and paste my rating of FT Fenton for the one in Crestwood: Friar Tuck doesn’t have a location convenient to me (in the city of St. Louis) but this one is about 20 minutes away along the depressing stretch of Watson that used to be bustling with commerce. The store seemed pretty new, so it’s big, bright, and clean. The staff helped me out by setting aside a couple bottles for me when I called ahead. The selection was pretty huge; a very long beer aisle rolls back into a back section with both aisle displays and a walk-in refrigerated area. Stock was deep for everything they had. The prices were just a touch higher than what I would have liked, but not bad. They had things in stock that I hadn’t seen in the area yet, or at least not in a long time. I wondered how long certain things were on the shelves but that didn’t matter for a couple rare impy stouts I found. Too bad there isn’t one of these closer to me or I’d visit more. It isn’t quite worth driving past Randall’s or Wine and Cheese for, unless they have something unusual the others sold out of.

Friar Tuck's interior is very clean and tidy. All of the different sections are kept orderly, bottles are dusted and nicely placed in regional categories. The lights are dim, but gives a nice warm inviting feel. There weren't too many customers, so it was really quiet. By the looks of things, this place likely gets very busy on the weekends. This is due to the amount of cash registers on hand.

The service was pretty much non existant. This is likely due to the fact it was noon on Monday, and there were very little staff on hand.

The selection is great and I can find some beers here that I cannot on the other side of the river in Illinois. I didn't find any white whales, but I am sure they have a steady customer base who knows when to get those yearly release beers.

Prices were the usual, not overly priced and the vice. Overall I'll hit this establishment anytime, since it carries brews I cannot find in Illinois, and it's a nice clean professional looking establishment.

There are two Friar Tuck stores in my area, but I'm going to go ahead and review the one further away because it is bigger.

The layout of the stores is very nice, almost like a grocery store. As soon as you walk in, there is a corner dedicated to accessories, glasses, cheeses, crackers and the like. The area behind that is 2 aisles and another corner of wines, then a few aisles of hard liquor, then the beer section. A very long refrigerated row of six packs and a walk-in cooler take up almost the entire back wall, and another full aisle of warm sixers and singles/bombers are along the other wall. You could spend an entire day exploring everything they offer.

The staff here was very knowledgeable about their own selection and different beer styles, and are also eager to help.

As before, the selection here is very, very nice. There are still a few beers I did not see (Arrogant Bastard, for example), but otherwise the craft beer stock is phenomenal. The Pick-a-Six rack is lacking though, as many of the beers here are regular brews you can find almost anywhere.

Overall, this shop is fantastic, even if the prices are a touch high. But it's a small price to pay for the quality of the store itself.

like the previous reviewer wrote, the thing that made it for me about this place was the entire aisle of home brewing equipment and ingredients. everything from spicket tubes to flavor extracts.

good beer selection but pricey. the way the place is laid out makes you think you could walk forever looking at beer.

mixed six for $8.99 but it was mainly stuff you're probably already familiar with... beers you can get at your local grocery store.

i did notice that they had bourbon county stout from 2007 and 2008. tempted to buy it.

in the end i bought a bomber of anderson valley hop ottin and rogue chocolate stout for around $11.

I drove past this place and was curious so I decided to check it out. Selection seemed comparable to Luka's in Ellisville, but luckily for me this place is a lot closer to home. Extensive selection of Belgian and Germans. Some British stuff too: Fuller's, Bellhaven, Sammy's... Also a decent American craftbrew selection, Ommegang,Sierra Nevada and not just the Pale Ale, also lots of stuff from Left Hand, Great Divide, and Fort Collins...I guess it's easy for Missouri beer stores to get stuff from Colorado breweries. I didn't really get much time to browse more but I think that I saw some homebrewing supplies down one aisle, I will have to check back on this.

While others have said that the staff isn't very knowledgable, when I was there there was a salesperson discussing Geuzes with a customer so I guess it just depends on which salesperson you get.

The drawback to this place is that it is a bit pricey, seemed higher than Luka's, but for me it all evens out due to it being closer to home (12 miles versus 25 to Luka's.) I will definitely be a regular customer here. All things considered it was a very good experience.

I have to say that this is a great store. It was fun to visit lots of beer, liquor wine and homebrewing/winemaking.

Quality: The store is new and clean. It has almost everything I could think of.

Selection: This place has a huge mix a six area with almost everything with in reason that they carry. Huge selection of cases, mini kegs, macro/micro/imports six packs. Lots of foreign and American singles there is almost a whole isles worth. There is also a small section of wine/beer making stuff and ingredients.

Service: The clerks did not seem to know much about what they had in stock and were not much help.

This place goes from about average to overpriced. The mix a six is $8.99.

Have quite a selection. They claim to have every beer you can get in Missouri, but that's not really the case. They're missing a few beers, but not much. It's new, so obviously it's clean. The large aisles are spaced well, and the high ceilings give you an open feeling. Well lit up. Now they are up and running at full speed, with a well stocked humidor up front, and half an aisle dedicated to home brew equipment and ingredients (kits and seperate ingredients). They also offer keg service, I just finished a sixtel of Arcadia Ales IPA that I picked up from there. Also, several of the employees really know their beers well.

As far as their prices go, they're in line with other stores in the area, some of the stuff was a buck or two more, some of the stuff was a buck or two cheaper. I'd say they leaned a bit towards more of the stuff being a buck or two more, but with gas prices these days, driving 15 miles to save a buck just doesn't work anymore.

All in all, I'm ecstatic that a beer store of this caliber finally has opened up near me. I like it a LOT.

update: 1/08/09 - the more I visit this store, the more their stuff leans towards the 'pricey' side. I often wonder if they check out the prices of their local competitors, and then mark everything up 15-20 percent. Also, it is hit or miss on whether or not the employees know what they're talking about. A few knowledgeable employees to some who can't even locate the products I asked for on the shelves.

update 1/08/10 - they're going overboard on overpricing. recent examples, Lagunita's Cappuccino Stout - $3.99 everywhere else - Friar Tuck - $5.99. A FIFTY PERCENT markup over competitors. The worse - Sierra Nevada Celelbration 24oz bottles - everywhere else under $3. Friar Tuck - $8.99 - or basically the same price as a sixer everywhere else. I refrain from visiting these guys any more.

The Crestwood location recently opened but everything appeared to be running smoothly. The store is well lit and clean with everything well organized and easy to find. The beer is on the far left wall as you enter the store. On the back wall you'll find almost every beer they carry also in a large bank of coolers. Very nice.

Service was great. Quick to help and very friendly.

They claim to offer every beer available in Missouri. They're close. I found that they may have every brewer available in the state - but not every beer. I'll use Goose Island as an example. They offer the Summertime and a couple of others but didn't carry the IIPA, Bourbon County, Matilda, etc. Hopefully soon.

I almost forgot to mention they also offer glassware and homebrewing products.

Prices seem consistent with other are shops.
* update 9/6/2921*
Beer freshness seems to have really taken a hit. Stopped by today to check out some IPAs and was stunned by the brewed-on-dates. Most were 4+ months old with some even going back to 2020. Rudiculous. Walked out empty handed.

First impresssion is of a large, airy space, with wide aisles, a very large beer cooler running along the back wall, and another wall of beer along the far left side.
Opening day visit, so most shelves and coolers were well stocked. Selection of local (Schlafly and O'Fallon), midwest, and nationally distributed craft brewers, as well as imports from England, Germany, Belgium and Australia and elsewhere, which rivals any other store in the area (excepting Corral in Granite City, as certain beers available in Illinois don't get distibuted into Missouri).
Generally well displayed, with knowledgable staff.
Prices in line with other beer shops in the area.

A large wine and liquor selection, as well as glassware and other accessories.
