Stopped in here on a Sunday night, with only two other tables occupied and the full attention of the owner/brewer/bartender, Jorge. The space is a fairly basic Argentine cafe atmosphere, with some beer paraphernalia, and rough-hewn wooden walls and tables. A small bar at the back of the room serves only as a pouring table, with no seating.
Only three beers are offered on draft, the house Red, Blonde, and Black. All three are interesting interpretations of their respective styles, with a decided German influence. As for food, we had already eaten dinner, so the menu of German-style delicacies had to go untried.
After sitting at our table for a while I struck up a conversation with Jorge, who was quite friendly and knowledgeable about the Argentine craft beer scene. He asked for suggestions on which style he should add to his lineup, but balked at the mention of an IPA (even his blonde is too "assertive" for Argentines, apparently). I can imagine it's a rough go, making beer in a tiny town in a country that is preoccupied with wine.
This is certainly worth a visit if you happen to find yourself in this particular corner of the Lake District. None of the beers are knockouts, but they're all solid offerings, and the hospitality can't be beat.
