Surprise box from hayesez that contained two Marble offerings. This is the first up. Thanks, Erik!

22oz bottle into .3l rastal fluted glass

A: "...my apartment smells of rich mahogany."

S: "So the team pancake breakfast is tomorrow morning at nine, instead of eight." Also; "It's a formidable scent... It stings the nostrils. In a good way."

T: This is an interesting brew. Certainly flavored as a strong ale, with a rich caramel, fig, raisin flavor which reads nicely off of the almost overpowering bready/maple syrup notes in the smell. Falls to the lighter side of flavor spectrum - not watery but a gentler side of strong ale - without losing the necessary body to satisfy the expectation. The alcohol that is upfront in the nose is not there at all in the flavor, instead married into the more complex dark fruit flavors.

M: "Great story. Compelling, and rich."

O: "I'm in a glass case of emotion."

Served in a tulip at WOB Tempe. Surprised me with its power and then it's flavor. A delicious craft that reflects bourbon barrel aging without overpowering booze taste. A Belgian character without being a Belgian beer. Will order again and again. I feel the 9 percent without tasting it.

St. Bottle

SM. I get an oaky and abundant vanilla note

T. Everything you smell you taste. It hits you wih a sweet vanilla flavor followed by a
solid oaky alcohol flavor.

O. This is a solid barley wine, but I don't know why it's not advertised that way?! The 1 pint 6fl. is probably a bit too much. I would prefer this if it were in a 4 pack 12oz, much like old stock ale which I would recommend before this beer.

a real showcase of bourbon barrels here. tons of vanilla, sweetness, wood, and warming alcohol in this brick red colored brew with extraordinary depth. shortish off white head caps off a dark and intriguing brew. the nose here is heavily oaked, with notes of dried cherries and brown sugar. i smell a little alcohol too, but nothing out of place. sweeter red malt starts the flavor trip, but its mellowed nicely by all the oak, which now gets a bit more nuanced with char, must, and tremendous vanilla character. layers of grain and wood compliment each other well, and all the residual sugar i anticipated from the nose is about gone, or at least not slowing this down at all. a very cool beer, soaked with rich bourbon flavors but still being rather drinkable, i could take down a bomber of this without a worry. decadent mouthfeel with just a tickle of booze and a very long finish like warm bread pudding. one of marbles best beers, i hope they make it back to colorado before long, i think they have all brought something unique to the table.

On tap at the brewery the second week of December 2013.

The beer was served into a tulip-shaped glass.

A- The beer had a thin, bubbly head of maybe a quarter-inch. The liquidd was light black with some brown hues. Almost more like a brown in terms of color.

S- I struggled to detect any aromas initially. Eventually the maltiness popped up, as did some sweet molasses, oak and dark roasted smells.

T- I was impressed by the sweetness of this beer, as it was the first thing I noticed on taste. This was followed by some oakiness and mellow hints of bourbon, followed by brown sugar, chocolate, and vanilla notes. The beer definitely came alive as it warmed a bit.

M- For a nine-percenter, this beer drank exceptionally smoothly and had very little booze presence. There was a good creaminess throughout and only a tinge of booze on the finish.

O- A good beer and one I enjoyed, but I also would have like more expression on the nose. The taste was great and I only expect more character from the bottles that I age.
