This was a surprise finding a barrel aged Quad in New Mexico. This beer spent time in Woodford Bourbon Barrels and that wood is what comes to the fore in this beer. Dark brown almost black with little head and almost no carbonation this is a beer in still early stages as some sweetness comes to the palate that would soften with age. The bourbon notes and the vanilla oak flavours are fairly dominate but the beer has lots of complexity as well. More time in the cellar ( eventhough it was in kegs ) would blend the big flavours more and decrease the sweetness. This was an impressive effort that spells well for Marble as the premier brewer in NM.

Generously poured by Brewmaster Ted Rice during a tour/visit, poured directly out of keg in cold box into small pilsener glass, 2.11.11. Thanks, Ted.

One finger off-white head, fairly quick dissipation with some lacing. Light amber body, fairly light for style, no visible carbonation. Nose is bourbon barrel centric, some dark stone fruit, raisins, plums, floral hops. Taste is finely balanced, the barrel notes are in harmony with the fruit flavors. IMO has more of Dubbel characteristics than a Quad. Alcohol very well hidden, you'd never have guessed this was a 10% ABV beer. This was a very good beer, wish it was bottled so I could share The Good News with my PDX BA brothers. Highly recommended.
