(Visited 06/2011): This Flying Saucer location is in downtown KC in the Power & Light district off Walnut and E 13th. Street parking and a couple garages in the area provide options.

The interior is similar to other locations. The bar is directly in the back and there is table seating throughout the rest of the space. Saucers adorn the walls for those who have completed the tour.

With respect to the beers, Flying Saucer has over 50 with many seasonal and regional options from Free State, Boulevard, and Schlafly. They also had a Stone firkin on my visit. Many different varieties of samplers are available too, or you can build your own. As for bottles there are over 100 with many craft options from Boulevard, Bells, Schlafly, Avery, New Belgium, O'Dell etc. Some imports from Mikkeller, St. Bernardus, Unibroue and the like.

Service on a weekday lunch was good. The bartender was very knowledgeable about the beers they carried and was attentive and friendly.

We did not have food on our visit.

Overall Flying Saucer is one of those places which for better or worse you know what you are going to get. When it comes to being somewhere that you aren't sure what beer options you have it is always a good bet.

Big open space on the corner of the Power & Light main block. Walls and ceilings are covered in saucers, with a bar stretching one wall. Tap list is extensive, featuring local, regional, national, and international beers. It's separated out by style of beer, allowing a quick browsing by style preference. There are a handful of local mystery beer options, which is fun for those indecisive or willing to explore. Prices are great, especially for this area of town. Happy hour brings some pours down to $3 and Monday all pours are $4 for a certain time period after work. Food selection seems fair, but only ordered an appetizer. It was okay. Service was fair, but slightly slow. Well recommended for those in the downtown area seeking a craft beer.

Overall a really solid place. This place fills up after 5:30 PM. Great beer selection, but they could still do some weeding. Cool, fun atmosphere in a fun part of town.

Awesome selection of beers. Nice atmosphere. Didn't eat here, so I can't comment on that. Service was decent. Best beer selection I saw in Kansas City for sure. Park in one of the garages for sure. Gets impossible to find parking otherwise.

What an awesome selection of craft beers! You will want to come back again and again because you will never get tired of trying something new or going back for an old favorite. If you aren't hungry, get the pretzels anyway. You will thank me later!

Excellent place to try countless amounts of beer on tap! And if they don't have it on tap they've almost always got it on bottle. Always good to great friendly service.

Not sure where my old review went.... Visited twice last week

This place seems a pleasant enough place to drink at. I could do without the loud music. I felt fairly old there, very much a younger crowd.

Beer quality for the most part was good

Service was friendly/helpful

Beer selection was good not great. They were going to put some rarer 4 hands stuff on one night, but alas my schedule didn't mesh. They had tap handles on when the kegs were blown, beer listed on the menu & chalkboard that were also gone. One time it took me 3 tries to actually pick a beer they had.

The food was pretty good, not cheap, but in line with the area.

I would go again if in the are, but not go out of my way. My 3 visits have left me somewhat happy, not thrilled. This is the only Saucer I've been to, so not really sure how it stacks up. A chains go, I rate it slightly higher than Mellow Mushroom...

They did always have t least on discounted pint, so that was cool....

Visited during a recent trip to Kansas City. This bar is located in what seems to be a fun district of downtown KC, the Power & Light District, and is a short stroll away from a horde of other restaurants and bars. It is also right next door to a parking garage that, at least the Friday evening I was there, offered all-night parking for $2, which is always a plus for a downtown spot!

The tap list is extensive, the bottle list not so much - approximately as many bottles on hand as taps. Bar staff seem to know their beer, which is unfortunately not a given at many craft bars. There's a bit of a kitschy vibe, with much of the place wallpapered with "saucers" that people apparently earn by ticking 200 different beers on site, and three times in the couple hours I was there, new "saucers" were unveiled with much ado - overhead speaker announcing, bells ringing at the bar, and so forth. The place was fairly crowded, but that's to be expected for a downtown spot on a weekend evening. The food menu is standard pub fare, burgers and appetizers.

The tap list included some harder to find beer, and it looks like they try to have something unique on hand at all times, in addition to an apparent focus on Missouri and Kansas beer.

Would return if ever back in town.

Made my first visit to the Kansas City version last week for Perennial night during their Stout week. The bartender was very well versed in all that was available. The event featured BA Abraxas and was handled very well. The food was decent and prices were very reasonable. The selection was well above average and they do try and feature Missouri beers. The beer menu is somewhat difficult to navigate. Just wish the establishment was closer to my home.

I stopped here for a bite to eat and a few beers after work while traveling for business. They definitely have a large craft selection which includes a lot of local or Kansas beers. Its nice when traveling to see a focus on local beers. They definitely had a good variety from across the Country as well as some beers from across the pond. The bar tenders were relatively busy but it was a Saturday night right after dinner. They had good knowledge and would let me sample what I was interested in. The carried a few pumpkin beers since it was September and they appeared to have a large bottle section which I didn't even get into.

They have daily specials which include new beers tapped weekly and sometimes daily. I would definitely recommend checking this place out. I am interested to check it out next time I am in town. Cheers!

There is nothing wrong with this place. It is just not my style. They have a lot of taps. It is much more Belgian and German focused than most chains. The menu is horrible because the draft and bottle list are intermingled. Crazy confusing to read and sort through. The staff surprisingly knew their beer very well. (I say surprising because it looked like they hired some bimbos to pour beer, but all of the servers had great knowledge of their list). I hear their events are cool. This place feels like a factory, but it’s the best sort of downtown beer factory that I’ve been to. If you want to see the real beer scene of KC, head down to Westport. There's a lot of small children and families here. Not my thing.

Flying Saucer is pretty much a sure thing no matter the location. Stopped in this one for a nightcap after a Royals game as it was three blocks from our hotel. Good sized place with a bunch of tables in the front. we grabbed two spots at the long straight bar at the back. Good selection of local and regional favorites both on draft and in bottle.

There was a New Belgium event that night so we concentrated on the Lips of Faith offerings that we can not get at home. Vickie snagged the last glass to be given away. Great service from the bartender.

One day we will be at a Flying Saucer at mealtime to render a verdict on the food but not this time. Always a worthwhile stop.

My wife and I stopped at The Flying Saucer after our tour at Boulevard Brewing (Highly recommended). The food is decent, the beer selection is very nice. I would probably stop back in again when in the area. Prices are reasonable. I would recommend stopping in for a brew and food.

This is my go-to bar. Love the atmosphere, and people you meet. The bartenders are what make this bar the place to hit in Kansas City. They have over 70 beers on tap, most of which are local, and another 150-200 in the cases from all over the world.

I prefer to sit at the bar, but out at the tables is nice too. The staff really know their beer. They take several beer tests throughout the year to stay up on the current beer they have. It is really rare to find one they don't know about...and if you do, they generally will enjoy the drink with you, so the next time they know about it :)

Food is great there as well. You would expect regular bar food, but it is a cut above that. You can get wonderful salads...but really it's the pretzel. That's what you want to get when you are there :) They are delicious. Try it with a German Sausage and a variety of cheeses. mmmm
