Staying in New Haven on business, wandered by this place and chose it randomly for dinner. Win!
Went on a Wednesday, no wait, but it was packed and loud, loud, loud. Lots of shouting across the table for us. Felt like a happening place.
Beer quality was fine, taste, temperature, glassware, etc. Good beers, too -- chalkboard with about two dozen beers on tap, 5 (!) of which changed over the nearly 4 hours I was there.
Good service, attentive but not overbearing. There was a free beer tasting at 7pm because it was Wednesday, happened to catch it by accident. This week it was Unibroue, the schedule is posted on the board. Pretty weak "tasting," 1-2 oz (shot glass or slightly bigger) pours of Blanche de Chambly, Ephemere, Maudite, but hey it was free and the guy doing the pours gave an efficient, accurate description of the beers geared toward beer fans and rookies alike... to each table as he went around pouring out of pitchers. That is advocacy.
They had about 4 double IPAs (yes!), Cascazilla, Midas Touch, Delerium Tremens, all on tap. Bottle menu was okay but who'd touch it? I had the Weyerbacher I2PA, a random Saison, and Lagunitas A Little Sumpin' Sumpin'.
Food was good, cheap and filling. Mac and Cheese is good, a little smoky and spicy. Blue cheese mashed potatoes were also good. Vegetarian friendly.
Bottom line: get there for happy hour from 4-7pm for half-priced beers and some appetizers. This menu would be killer at half off, too bad I missed it.
