SoDo's peculiar flavors eventually grew on me. But they were initially too odd to appreciate and strayed far from traditional styling. The beer centers on chocolate malts and something suggestive of almond shell. It is dark walnut color with a soft burr of foam and authoritative lace. SoDo showed some redeeming qualities but not enough and too late to serve any meaningful purpose.

Thanks to 5000 for sending this can my way.

The beer pours a dark red-amber color with a tan head. The aroma is full of toffee and nuts, with not too much else going on. The flavor is similar. I get some dry cocoa and toffee, as well as some hazelnut character. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

12oz can poured into a pint.

A- An aggressive pour yielded a measly 1/2 finger head that was gone in 60 seconds. Nice dark brown color though.

S- Mostly toasty malt on the nose.

T- Something wrong with this beer. Heavy vegatable musk taste, and some bitter stale-ish hops. Not good.

M- Mouthfeel is OK, needs more carbonation. Interesting that the review before me says too much carbonation. Seems two beers has some consistency problems.

O- I've had 2 2-Beers, so far one winner and this is a loser. Maybe a bad batch since others seem to be a little more favorable but this will be a tough one to finish.

Appearance: nice looking dark beer with Carmel color head.
Smell- no not good. It smells just like a flat hamms
Taste. Not good not bad. Really not a lot of flavor. I expected Carmel and chocolate. I didn't get either. There is a slight spice like pepper coming in at the end but very faint.
Mouthfeel- flat.
Overall- I bought this beer off the shelf at brewforia here in Boise 6 days ago. Brewforia typically doesn't let stuff sit for a while but who knows. This beer tasted like I had opened it last night and drank it today.

12oz can picked up early today at Bier Thirty for $2.... seems expensive..

Damn.. OVERCARBONATED.... brown beer all over the corner of my kitchen...

When poured into my slim tulip... easy 4 fingers of tan head... big bubbles... good lacing... the brew is clear walnut brown.

Nose shows an immediate phenolic note that I just don't like... a bit like Windex.... underlying nutty brown malt barely squeaks out.

Flavor is better thankfully... sort of standard American Brown.... nothing jumps out... nothing is bad.. nice hop to malt balance... some light citrus helps the slight cocoa/dark toast and nutty malt profile...

Body is lighter than normal.... carbonation seems high ....

The carbonation and gusher (in a can??!!) is off putting for me... tastes pretty good... the aroma needs work..

Too many negatives to give this brew a pass.

12oz can. Pours a very dark brown, almost black color with over an inch of frothy tan head. Fair amount of lacing. Aroma is earthy and nutty. Some sweet toffee, caramel and roasted malts. The taste is alot like the aroma, nutty and earthy. Sweet mix of vanilla, toffee and caramel. Earth and roasted malts at the end. Lots of carbonation. Overall, a flavorful and easy to drink Brown Ale. Worth having again.

Poured from can into pint glass. about 1 1/2 finger of head, with beautiful lacing. Dark reddish brown in color. Not a lot of aroma... maybe dark bread? It's a roasty taste, but a little on the hot side with the finish. Very malty, but not too sweet. The mouthfeel is very thin and watery and no carbonation to speak of.

It's weird... I think in the case of this beer, the individual elements I wasn't fond of, but they somehow work together. I would like more carbonation, but other than that, it's strangely good.

very dark with almost no head. Served in too cold glass

Could not pick up any real aroma.

Taste is very roast forward. Almost burnt. Water mouthfeel. Astringent finish.

Has potential but a bit rough around the edges.

I love a roasty toast brown but this needs some more balance.. more carbonation and some more swwetness. Not the best brown out there.

Canned: unk

Pours a nice brown with a finger of tan foam that falls to a solid sheet of the same with ropes of lace. Soft roasty nose with some wood and vanilla tones and a little herbal hop character. Nice nose. Roasty flavor is delicate and nearly sweet with some really fantastic coffee flavor longside some rye bread flavors. The carb is a little hi initially, but as it warms, this is alleviated and the body is medium and takes on a decent velvety tone. A nice brown ale and I look forward to drinking again. Well, well done. This brewery rarely disappoints me.

Poured from 12oz can into a pint glass.

Appearance: rich, murky brown hue with a thick finger of frothy tan foam atop. Quite nice looking.

Smell: light, creamy, sweet chocolatey aroma with a little bit of vegetal hops coming through. Aside from the latter, it's a smooth, tasty-smelling brew.

Taste: malt has a sweet chocolate character followed by a touch of sourness and an earthy hop flavor which is pretty messy. Bitterness is appropriate, but the aftertaste doesn't help here at all. I feel like this beer has a lot of potential but it doesn't quite get realized.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent level of carbonation and a surprisingly smooth and silky creaminess. Quite nice.

Overall: this beer is kind of all over the place with regards to quality. I want to like it, but it has too many flaws, especially in the flavor. It has promise, though.
