Oldsmar Tap House was rated the number one beer bar in the Tampa Bay area... I'd agree to disagree with that statement. Honestly, I was rather unimpressed and disappointed.

The selection was rather nice, the staff was friendly and knowlegable, but the atmosphere was rather drab and boring. This bar is not high energy by any stretch of the imagination. Tap House feels more like a hotel lounge than a guru's beer bar.

Here's the skinny, if you're looking to go out with friends, drink some beers in a boring laid back atmosphere, then you've found the right place. However, you're looking for an energetic bar with a lively crowd and fun patrons, look else where. I'm not going to give a cheap plug for the other beer bars in Tampa Bay, but there are definitely more enjoyable places to drink great beer!

I view Oldsmar Tap House as a great place for a one beer nightcap, otherwise I'd look elsewhere. But on the brightside, their selection is definitely nice and the staff seemed to be very helpful and talkative. It's just the crowd and atmosphere made me feel like I was drinking at a morgue rather than a bar!

This has become my home to indulge in some of the finest IPA's around! Not to mention the staff and patrons are a great group of down to earth folks. They have great live music and I love Thursday Trivia night. I meet the new owners and they are truly great people who understand great service and hospitality!

Just found this in my notes from 2009 and realized I never posted it. Drove over from Largo while on spring break. The tap selection was very good except it was lacking IPAs and DIPAs. After speaking with the owner for quite a while, who was very knowledgeable, he told me he really didn't like super hoppy beers. He took great care of me and the girl I was with, giving us complimentary shirts and a couple local brews to go. One of the best beer bars I have been too. If you are in the Tampa area, definitely make it a point to find this place.

The Place is GREAT! They have a great selection, a very knowledgeable staff and an awesome owner.
With 36 beers on tap and over 80 bottles of beer from all over the world, I always find something I like. also they now serve food.
The one major drawback is that they are closed on Sundays.
If you are planning a Tampa Bay Brew tour this place is a must stop!
One of the best places in the Tampa Bay area to have a beer! get there!

They also hold the "Oldsmar Taphouse 5k Run" every year.

I have been here a few times even though I live about an hour away and I am Impressed by how nice and clean this place was and that there food was very tasty I got a sandwich and my wife got the cheese and cracker platter both of which reasonably priced, the service was good, and the games that they had for you to play at your table is a nice touch, but most important the beer that was on tap was great with a great selection and they put the beer in the correct glassware which is very important so I definitely be back

Well, here's my first BA review - and what prompts me to start now? Quite simply, the superb experience(s) of drinking beer at this establishment.

On my first visit, I thought I was arriving one hour after opening, but my information (or watch) was wrong and in fact the place had been open for only a minute and I was the first/only customer. This turned out to be a good thing, because owner Tony treated me like a very special guest, talking me through a large selection of unfamilar beers (while letting me taste many of them). His knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, good beer is immediately obvious and it shows in the selection of excellent brews on offer. This visit, however, was only a short one because i was driving...

A couple of days later, with chaffeur in the driving seat, I spent the last night of my vacation on a second visit and the beer and service were every bit as good, and many of the other patrons were keen to discuss beer and brewing. After a range of fine beers had been consumed (my personal favorite being the Cigar City IPA), I resolved from the passenger seat to place my impressions on (cyber) paper, so here is the result.

The Tap House will definitely be a regular stop on my future trips to Florida - an excellent pub.

What would you do if Willie Stargell invited you to take batting practice with him? John Candelaria invited you to bullpen warm-ups? Mario Lemieux asked you to the afternoon skate around? Terry Bradshaw pointed to some footballs and then down field? Bob Sylvester asked you to a tippling at Oldsmer Taphouse of Schmaltz BC? What? What's that you ask? Who's Bob Sylvester? My newest hero, of course! If you're not in the know, you're in the no, looking in.

Pulling up, the neon and the reclining gecko/lizard logo were immediate clues that this might be a happening place. A wide, windowed storefront with the doorway on the left facing side with a logo carpet just inside the entrance. The inverted "S"-shaped, varnished dark wood bar was to right oblique. In between the entry and the bar were circular restaurant tables and standard chairs along with the same along the window front. Aft, left, were the lavs with foosball nearby. Colored chalkboards behind the bar enumerated all of the available beers. Make sure that you check out the collection of (dead) BTs in the overhead above the bar. Tony was the owner. Opened 02 February 2008. Ask for Tony, the owner, and tell him that Woody sent you.

Beers: 35 taps; 1 handpull; around 175 bottles.

This ties with Dunedin HOB as my favorite pub north of Tampa. It is VERY clean, in a nice part of town, has good atmosphere, & they know their stuff.

I am 1.5 hrs away so I've only been able to visit 3 times, but the place was the same each time--GOOD. Their selections aren't world class, however I doubt most advocates will be dissapointed.

One negative, for pub crawlers, is that they were not real busy each visit (I think may have moved a while back); so I plea with all you BA's, if you are in that area please drop in for some awesome pints. This place is too good to ignore.

One of my favorite places to go for a beer. Great selection 40 taps plus some bottels. Constantly rotating selection with proper glassware. No smokeing, no 200 tv's with sports on. The bartenders know what their talking about.

They also have live music some nights by some good local bands. Just wish they had more seating. Love the chaulk boards in the restrooms, sometimes some pretty funny comments on them.

Lot of bang for your buck. With a small food selection, consisting of cheese and crackers with some meats also avalible. Great spot worth checking, cuz it will put most places in this area to shame.

I stopped in here on a recent trip to tampa based on it's great reputation and recommendations from local BAs. I was there on a weekday night and I walked in at around 9:45. Unfortunately they close at eleven so I wasn't able to try the food or very many beers. They have a ridiculous tap slection, close thirty, most of which were of very high quality. I was able to try CCB Maduro Brown Ale, Hitachino XH, Fort Collins Rocky Mount IPA and a few others. The service at the bar was excellent. Our bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable and was very helpful in recommending local beers not available in the northeast. The only problem I had with this place, aside from the early hours, was that there was no bottle list. With a selection of draft like their I shouldn't be so picky but they had several coolers filled with beer and no list explaining what was in them. Other than that I had a great time and would highly recommend this place to anyone in the area.

Hands down my favorite beer bar in the area. I think a good comparison point is Blind Tiger Ale House in Greenwich Village in terms of atmosphere, quality, selection, and service. The ultimate focus is on the brews without distractions of pool tables, blaring tv's, loud music, or large crowds. The owner Tony provides the best service around. Good rotation of new and unique brews on tap with some solid keepers that stick for a while. The sausage and cheese platters are good enough, but don't expect a full food menu. Pricing is very reasonable ($5-$7) and the atmosphere is comfortable to stay a while and actually be able to talk to others without having to yell over the typical bar noise. An overall great neighborhood joint without the corporate or rowdy tone felt at other places.

As soon as I walked into OTH I knew I was "home". No TVs, No Pooltables, No Dart Boards, just beer. Selection is awesome. Tony and staff are quite knowledgeable. I recommend going during the week rather then fri or sat cuz it can get a little packed sometimes which will slow service down a bit. Food selection isnt horrible but not all that great. The quality of the food is excellent however. They have some sandwiches and cheese plates which do come in handy if your session runs a little longer then expected. I am so glad I stumbled my way into the OTH.

I saw this listed with good reviews so I had to give it a try. I grew up 15 minutes from the OTH so while home at Christmas I was looking forward to visiting.

It really is a very nice beer bar in an area not known for much more than macro beer. I would never have imagined Oldsmar to have a beer bar especially since Oldsmar was a rural, redneck, no-place when I was growing up. Tony was at the bar that night and cracked open a couple of bottled beers for my nephew & I to try. One was a very interesting Brazilian smoked beer, an Eisenbahn Rauchbier.

The bartenders were nice & knowledgeable. The tap list was large, about 35+, and very good. They even try to have something on cask when they can get something good. It looks like Tony tries to get the very best beer available to him. The clientele were beer lovers and friendly.

There are sandwiches and cheese plates to help with hunger. I would recommend a vegetarian sandwich to be included.

I have a hard time imagining a better beer bar in the area.

After reading some reviews on places to try while in Tampa, I had to try this place out, and it certainly did not disapoint. Tony and his staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. He definitely knows his stuff and was willing to share his knowledge. Oldsmar Tap House has a nice laid back feel to it, with low volume music in the background. Definitely a not a bar for the "scene" types, but for those wanting an excellent beer experience it's a must. A nice selection, but not overwhleming (other bars may have more, but could not match the quality, and does having Corona and Bud really count anyway?) Quality food, but nothing special, we had a few appetizers. After visiting a few spots in Tampa, this is the only one I plan on returning to.

I think it has been well establishes here that the Oldsmar Tap House is a VERY good beer bar. The ambiance is like an upscale pub but its a rather small place which I like because its more intimate and it keeps the place from getting too busy. I suggest visiting on a week night as the weekends are a little tight. The service is a little slow but everyone is beer savvy. The selection is among the best in the state and the beer menu changes every week or so. They have something for everyone from the basic lager to the heavy duty barley wine drinker. I think my favorite thing about this beer bar is that they are smart enough to offer food! Its just cold food so no grill but at least there is something to eat so if you just need something like a sandwich to have with that beer you can do so without ordering out. Genius. The prices are high but not unreasonable. Overall probably the best best beer bar in the area and the owner really understands what beer geeks want.

The "Cheers" of Tampa! I have been coming here for a few months now and decided it NEEDS to be my first ever review. From the moment you step into this great beer bar you feel at home. It doesn't do Oldsmar Taphouse any justice refering to it as a "bar", it's a second home to many of us. The friendly staff, the great selection, music playing in the background like a personal soundtrack, and even boardgames! It makes you want to take your shoes off and kick back. The selection is constantly rotating and the service is always exceptional. The food is perfect for the atmosphere, great sandwichs and complementing appetizers. If you are wanting a place to fit in as a Beer Advocate and don't need to come home smelling of cigarettes, this is the place.

Best beer bar in Tampa period. To the guy two reviews below me who hacked on it because the atmosphere does not fit his style I say come back when you grow up a bit.

This place is not the meat locker many are used to in the Tampa area. You know the place.... music pounding, guys wearing their big boy jeans and best short sleeved button up, dropping lame one liners trying to pick up anything with breasts.

This place is about beer, not just beer but the best beer that Florida has to offer. Week after week Tony brings in the best beers that the Florida distributors offer up. Many beers are very rare and are offered to only one or two bars in the state. The conversation is beer centered and there is no pounding music or blaring TV to distract you. He has a great personal stash of beer that he has acquired and is more than willing to pop open a bottle or two to share.

To put it in perspective Stone came to Florida today where did they hold their kickoff party, yep you guessed it OTH. It is the best beer bar in the area, and so far in my travels the entire state.

Not a huge food lineup, but what they do offer is of high quality. Service is great and the staff knowledgeable. Prices are more than fair considering what is offered.

Back to the guy who railed this place.... when your done at the salami fest down the road and looking for that "night cap" after striking out on the ladies once again stop by OTH I will buy you a beer to cry in.

Oldsmar Tap House is the text book definition of a beer bar. The place exists to celebrate beer and the conversation and camaraderie that beer facilitates. If you are looking for a place to be seen sporting your trendiest new clothes while conversation crushing music drones in the background, you have numerous options. But, the Oldsmar Tap House isn't one of them.

Instead you get a thoughtfully designed beer lineup including beer rarities you will see nowhere else in Tampa Bay and passionate staff and ownership who demonstrate real support for the beer loving community. After the gloss fades and the latest multi-tap money grab beer joint shuts its doors, Oldsmar Tap House will still be around, because it is based on something more than a fad.

If you want a cookie-cutter experience this aint your bar. If you want amazing beers no one else carries, special events no one else hosts and the company of real beer lovers this is far and away the best choice in the Tampa Bay area.

I can't remember how I came across this place to begin with but I have been back several times since (just got back from there not to long ago)

The selection of beer is top notch...the food is good quality if somewhat limited in selection

there is always something new to try and I am continually impressed with what i find...there are some really decent beer bars in the Tampa bay area but this place is special definitely worth a visit

can't wait to stop in there again and again and again

really stop reading these reviews and just go there already

OTH is easily the best beer bar in the Clearwater area. The atmosphere is laid back, and the focus in on the beer. Tony, the owner, is very beer savvy, and is always moving around to all of his patrons discussing beer.

Although it's a business, Tony clearly enjoys being the publican - making sure everything is running smoothly, knowing everyone's names, and bringing out special bottles from his private collection occasionally to share - just for the love of the beer.

I have visited many times, and each time Tony has something available (usually on tap or cask) that I've never had before. I've got over 3000 beers rated on my website (BuildABeer dot org), so it's a pleasant surprise to continuously get to taste new beers. Tony is willing to put beers on tap that no other bar has - and he chooses to order rare/unusual beers - just to try them out.

Tony also has built a great beer serving system and cooler. Beers are served at appropriate temperatures, with various mixtures of CO2 and Nitrogen, and in the proper glassware.

Food includes cheese and sausage plates, as well as a couple of sandwiches. Not an eclectic menu - but good food for those longer "sampling" sessions!

This is the place to go if you're interested in trying out a lot of different beers - or talking with some of the beer geeks who show up on a regular basis (including a good part of the Dunedin Brewers Guild homebrew club). I make new friends almost every time I go there - and it's great to hear everyone's stories about their experiences with beer (and life).

I also have been holding weekly tastings there for "travel" beers - contact me for more info.

Obviously the best bar in the bay area. Great beer all the time on tap, with the beers being rotated and switched around practically daily. Just go in every other day and you'll find something new. It's nuts. Tony goes out of his way to get the most unique and interesting beers, too. The guy knows his beer and has no problem cracking open a rare bottle of something or another just to share with folks. Aside from Tony there are plenty of other friendly staff who are all awesome and know enough about beer to help out with anything ya need.

Mandatory stop for anyone who's traveling to the bay area for beer. Period.

A - Small but cosy. Wifi and plenty of electrical outlets for anyone chained to electronics. I noticed that they provided a foosball table and pub puzzles in case you get bored with the beer (which you shouldn't).

S - I was there in the early evening, so they weren't overly crowded, but the service was prompt and friendly. We never had to worry about an empty glass sitting on the table for more than a minute, and only delay in getting a new pint was the time it took to figure out what to order.

S - Great tap selection. I had the Brooklyn Grand Cru and the Jolly Pumpkin cask Bam. Both were served correctly and in proper glass ware, and the rest of the tap list was impressive as well.

F - Didn't eat while we were there. The menu was minimal with just enough to give you enough to soak up the alcohol if you had one too many.

Overall, I was very impressed with the place. The tap selection was excellent; only about 30 taps, but each was well used. Everything on draught was either a rare beer or a classic and it seemed like they moved well enough to keep the beer fresh. The service was great and the owner, Tony, was friendly and clearly passionate about beer. I would expect things here to only improve with time.

I have been to Oldsmar Tap House twice now. First time I was in the area and just stopped in for a quick beer about 30 mins before they closed. I also hit it up on a friday night recently and was not impressed either visit. First off my friend ordered a shipyars summerale and the "beer savvy" bartender poured him a shipyard brown. This was even after he got a sample of the shipyard summer. Plus the bartender was also hypeing a rare belguim they had on tap that they cant get very often and he forgot the name of it and had to go look at the chalkboard. I can understand these mishaps if the place was slammed but there was maybe 10 patrons in the whole place and 2 bartenders on duty. I could not get a second beer to save my life and had to walk around to the front of the bar and it still took me about 5 mins to get a beer. On a side note this place does have a great tap selection, but that doesnt make up for the miserable atmosphere and lousy service.

I was privileged enough to spend a couple weekends in Oldsmar, Florida and both Friday and Saturday Nights I spent at the Oldsmar Tap House.
We have some great beer bars in Orlando, but the Oldsmar Tap House blows them away. 35 beers on tap and a lot more in the bottle. Almost every tap is something not normally found in another bar. The prices are very reasonable for hard-to-find beers, all ranging in the $5-$6 range for a glass.
The atmosphere is great. One night there was a guy playing blues on the guitar, the other night was just some music playing lightly over the speakers. There are no TVs. The place is full of beer advocates, and in many cases they are sharing bottles of all kinds of stuff. The staff, the owner Tony and the regulars make this place a beer-lovers paradise. I was able to try several great beers just by hanging out and talking to some of the people in there.
The food consisted of some sandwiches and cheese and sausage plates. Not a ton of selection, but the little they do have is good quality and goes very well with the beers they serve.
Overall, the place isn't too crowded, however the service can be a little slow when there is a line at the bar. It isn't too loud. They have free wi-fi. The people are friendly. The food is good. Oldsmar Tap House gets a big thumbs-up. I can't wait to get back to town.
