First had: on tap at Capone's, Norristown, PA

Poured a golden-straw color with a slight hazy, and a small white head that receded to a ringlet. Aroma of toasted grains and watermelon. Basically the same in the taste, light toasted grains, sweet watermelon that sit on the almost indistinguishable line between real melon and Jolly Rancher, slightly bitter in the finish from a crisp leafy hop contribution. Not bad for what it's worth, and a nice summer beer for sure. But I must say as far as watermelon beers go, I'll stick with 21st Amendment's wheat beer.

Not enough Watermelon, infact if the name didn't say that it was a watermelon lager that I wouldn't have even noticed. Kinda hoped that it would have been a bit more flavorful and wasn't. The beer was a clear yellow lager with a white head. Not a whole lot else in this really. It's a decent brew for summer time but I don't know if I'd seek it out again.

Got a growler of this stuff from Capone's, I had it last year at the Summer Ale Festival at the Phila. Zoo and remember liking it - I wanted to get a growler of something nice, simple, and refreshing to keep me cool on these sweltering Philly days. It's doing its job might I add. Pours a clear golden yellow, very similar to a generic American lager. 1/2" of off-white foam head that subsides quickly. Simple aroma - mild grain and hops, and just a pinch of watermelon. Same goes for the flavor. Very refreshing stuff - and incredibly drinkable - very light in flavor, body, and ABV. Nice stuff.

Originaly Reviewed on: 07-24-2009

A - Coppery tones with light head from ample carbonation.

S - Mild scent of watermellon. Almost if you just smelled the watery juices from the fruit as opposed to the whole fruit itself.

T - Suprisingly natural like watermellon taste. As with the scent, the flavor is more watermellon watery juices then the whole fruit. Not much else going on because of its light lager style.

M - Light bodied like a light lager should be. Decent carbonation, like a fruit beer should have.

D - Interesting, light and refreshing. Not very complex, but decent.

From notes. On tap at Capones...
Appears a hazy, viscous pink with a small, white head that slowly fades. Scattered spots of milkshake-like lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of watermelon up front with watermelon rinds, and sugary watermelon Jolly Rancher candies pulling through.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas in a deliciously, fruity flavor that is in no way offensive, or overbearing.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, juicy, sugary, mildly bitter. This would go great with garlic bread to balance out the pungent flavors of the garlic.

Its a Watermelon beer--don't drink it if you don't like Watermelon.

Essentially a blonde with lotsa whole pieces of melon added. Color is made a bit pinkish and head retention is minimal. Some Jolly Rancher goodness going on in the nose. Biscuity flavor with watermelon sweetness and some bite coming assumingly from the rind. A good summer session beer.

I was eager to taste this when I had the chance to try a sample from a growler recently.

A - A light amber shade w/ white foamy head of about 1/2 inch. The clarity is good and the lacing was decent.

S - The smell was not very strong, very light fruit w/ a touch of watermelon if you strain to find it. There was a slight fruit extract I noticed later, but like most lighter lagers there isn't an abundance of aroma.

M - The mouthfeel was sweet w/ a smooth lager quality finished w/ a sweet fruity almost syrup-like extract tinge.

T - This beer is what you might expect - Watermelon extract combined w/ a basic lager, no frills, no really off flavors to offend either. It is refreshing w/ a candy-like taste from the extract that is like a jolly rancher, but it doesn't go overboard.

D - The beer is just ok for me as far as the drinkability goes, not something to seek out or get excited about, but worth a try.

I have been sampling this beer all summer at different good beer destinations in the burgh. Pours with a golden body and a spritzy pink tinted white head. Aroma scream juicy melon pulp with a touch of biscuit malt carrying this fruit beer along. Flavor was again watermelon focused a deep juicy layer of refreshing yet candy like flavors with cereal grains adding some beeriness to the whole thing. Mouthfeel was not too cloying but had some stickiness going on, carbonation was spritzy as mentioned prior. Body overall light to the edge of medium. Drinkability overall an interesting watermelon infused brew, it's nice to try one becuase when I get ahold of cans of 21st amendment my palate won't go into shock. I was able to down a few pints while drinkin' at Smokin' Joe's and I revisited this drink at the Big Pour, quality.

Well I'm not really sure what to say about this one. It's a pretty basic golden lager, with little bitterness, and what seems like real watermelon added in. If it's not real watermelon, then kudos to Roy Pitz because I was fooled. In fact, if I can find any fault with this beer, it's that it tastes a little too much like watermelon seeds! And I don't know how to explain that flavor, but everyone should know what watermelon seeds taste like - well, if you've ever eaten a real watermelon anyway. Beyond that I'd guess it's simply a fruit beer argument, or something like that, but I thought that it was good enough to enjoy regardless of warm weather. I'd only have one, but I'd drink one of these in the fall or winter - why not? - what better time to remember summer!?

Worth trying.

On-tap at Liberty St. Tavern in Allentown, PA. Appears hazy blond. Yup, there sure is watermelon in here. There's an upfront watermelon taste followed by a rind bitterness (could be hops or melon) in the finish. The backing malt is a simpler blond lager with a multigrain bread taste. Yeah, it's bready. Worth a try, but not probably something you'd order again unless you love watermelon.

Pours average. Lots of cabonation, bubbley head, pale golden/ golden straw color.
Smelled kind of empty. Not solid at all.
Tastes like an average lager. Watermelon finish. Refreshing, not too sweet.
Feels watery. I wouldn't order another. Not really too impressed
