Just a well made drinking Kolsch great for the warmer months. Served a nice golden bronze hue with a bright white head. Aroma had grass citrus notes swelling my senses. Flavor had a crisp malt flavor that made me pay attention and enjoy each sip there after, a perfect warm weather beer I hope to catch more Roy Pitz brews in the Burgh. I've been drinking the Watermelon lager when available but this was really nice. Mouthfeel was solid light to medium bodied effervescent carbonation solid brewski. I wish I good get this on a more regular basis, quenched my thirst and paired well with the food I was snacking on at the Big Pour.

A tumbler served at the Brass Rail Deli.

A: The kolschbier is a pale golden color, relatively clear even fresh from the tap, with a nice finger of head blanketing the hop. Minor lacing followed.

S: The nose is light, clean with a pleasant hoppy aroma. Pale malts aren't too bready, just solid enough.

T: Wow! I am surprised by how good this kolsch is. The pale malts are fortified with a green fruitiness (think apples). A hoppy bite runs through the malts, sharp but not citrusy. The flavor is more earthy, a strong compliment to the malts. For as delicate as the ale looks, it doesn't wimp out on flavor.

M: Plenty of flavor coming through this ale. The pale base, clean hops and yeasty fruits all conspire to be quite good.

D: I chose this beer first, intending to move on to a Belgian IPA. Much to my surprise though, this ale left me very happy. Nicely done, Mr. Roy and Mr. Pitz.

Poured from the bottle into a stange glass.

A very shampoo like and fleeting white head about three fingers tall is made, settling to a soapy collar that after about 5 minutes disappears nearly completely. Body is filled with lots of cola carbonation. but then settles to pinhead rising carbonation to match with many slow rising bubbles through a clear and nearly crystal brassy yellow golden body.

Nose is a hint of fruity ester but there's a faint noticeable tinge of fussel like alcohol here also. Sense of crisp malt possibly coming.

Palate doesn't seem to hold up on first sip. Body comes off quite watery, with a slight grainy finish. Muted crispness and bready malts hint slightly but fall off on the swallow. Slightly grassy and muted finish with a good amount sticky yeast quality as well. Kind of has a bit of macro tasting sensations to it also.

This is alright for drinking but as far as Kölsch goes there's much better out there. Still life could be worse I suppose and there's no harm no foul here.

A - Well its much deeper "blonde" than one would expect a deep shade of orange brown with hardly any head.
S - Getting better a distinct smell of lemon zest and flesh with some grains and malts. A bit sweet really.
T - Well it went down pretty smooth the lemon was interesting but wasn't a lemonade like sourness more of a subdued sugary lemon. Mild grains, little hops and mostly sweet malts.
M - Light bodied and easy to quaff.

Overall a simple blonde and easy tick for only $1.75 for the single. Would not get it again though since I wasn't overly impressed.

On tap at Capones.

Poured a medium and hazy yellow color with a small sized white head. Aromas of lots of graininess, toasty, grass, wheat, and earthy. Tastes of wheatiness, citrus, and grainy. Some lacing left on the glass.

Thanks to TroyG2352 for this one

App- I wasn't expecting the coloring on this one. More like a small IPA mixed with a tripel per se. It was very hazy and golden with orange streaks. A small 1/4" head was there and then left. Didnt see any lace or cling either. It was a bit dense as well. Wasnt one of those hazy see through beers. Bit more dense.

Smell- The nose on this was pretty straight foward. Had a nice citrus tinge with some underwhelming malts. I am not sure if this is like all Kolsch's. Havent had that many. Its only 4% but had a weird booze note behind it.

Taste- I really wasnt expecting these flavors. It really was an interesting beer as I put on Untappd. The citrus was more like a small IPA and the malt combo was similar to a wheatwine. Had that flavor combo without the bite. I will say I think it was better than average but am still scratching my head as to what it is.

Mouth- It was more of a lighter medium body and drank bigger than the ABV would indicate. The carbonation was a bit prickly and smooth at the same time with the malt bill filling in some nice gaps. The residual flavors are of citrus and a tinge I cant place.

Drink- It's a pretty tasty beer. A bit unique and can't put my finger on what it is actually. I cant tell if its a profile I havent had or just cant place the flavors.

A: Beautiful golden color. The head pours huge (3 fingers) and fluffy. Quickly falls to a ring around the edges. Leaves lacing along the glass.

S: A floral hoppyness, not too strong.

T: The maltiness like an English pale ale is first apparent and followed by the floral hops which help balance it out without overpowering. The floral lingers on the tounge.

M: Light, like an English pale ale.

D: High, I kept sipping away at it. My father said he could drink the whole growler on a hot day (he doesn't drink).

O: Worth the price? At $10 a growler, no. But growlers are way over-priced anyways. Search it out? No, it's not a big enough beer for that. Recommend? Sure, this is a pretty good example of the style. Not the best, but fair. Buy again? No.

Golden yellow in color with a deep haze. Poured with a fizzy white foam that slowly reduced to a wispy cap. Bready malt and light floral aromas with light fruity, sweetness beneath. Medium bodied with assertive but not not overly-aggressive carbonation. Bready malt and floral hop flavors from beginning to end with a fruity sweetness beneath. Floral hop character bites toward the dry finish. Finishes with a sweet bready and floral aftertaste.

As seems typical with kölsch produced in the U.S., it's heavy and thick. Grain bill seems high. And the lemon does bring some tang. Feel has a pretty full carbonation to it. It's not really something that fits to style. And it's little more than just another beer.

A growler from Whole Foods in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. into a standard pint.
Pours a straw gold with a 2-finger head which settles to a coating. Lacing is light but there throughout. Nose is some hops, pale malt, lemon, and some grassiness. Taste is a nice blend of hops, some fruit, especially lemon, wheat, some breadiness and a pleasant crisp hop-tinged finish. Mouthfeel is light to medium with ample carbonation. This is a good brew for a hot, summer afternoon and definitely sessionable.

This beer is very pale yellow with a perfectly clear see through body. The head is very thin and white. The aroma is a lot like whole grain ceral to me. The taste also seems like it's got tons of oats and grains in it, not much of a hops kick at all in here. The mouthfeel is very light. This beer isn't really my favorite since it's so light on just about every level. But for someone who enjoys light beers this would probably be enjoyable for them.
