0.5 liter can
Deep red, tan head.
Some dark fruit in the nose, with a little chocolate. Also an off-putting harshness most likely from the alcohol.
The same harshness on the palate, with some nice dark fruits behind it and a pleasant dry, bitter chocolate taste on the finish.
Not too heavy, not too carbonated.
Overall, kinda harsh but the underlying flavors aren't so bad. Quite unremarkable though.

500 ml bottle, poured into a lager glass.
Color is clear amber-brown. Head is big and foamy and has a beige color. Forms some decent lacing.
Smell is dominated by roasted malt.
Taste is sweet, malty with a slightly bitter aftertaste.
Body feels light and is well carbonated.
Overall this is a decent romanian beer. Definitely the best dark one. Well balanced and drinkable.

Served in Brasov poured from a bottle.
This beer is almost virtualy identical to another Romanian beer Ursus in my opinion.
Chestnut to Walnut brown clear color with a cream colored somewhat solid head lighter that the Ursus. Head manages to stay.
Smell of nut possibly chestnut but not much else, faint nose a bit weak.
Tastes like an average typical brown ale of sorts, not hoppy some malt perhaps on the palate, a bit too wet for my tastes in mouthfeel though. It is a pleasant taste, there is no excessive alcohol to pick up. It is very macro like tasting. It tastes literally identical to Ursus but not as alcohol "like" taste on the finish.
Easy drinking if that is your thing.

Silva Black was my beer of choice in Romania. Dirt cheap, generally pretty fresh from the can and quite flavorful. I wouldn't call this a traditional schwarzbier, perhaps dark lager would be more appropriate. It's on the malty side, semi-sweet but only faintly roasty, with a flavor profile that reminds me of an English brown ale, minus the complexity you'd get from ale yeast. The 7% alcohol is somewhat noticeable, though not in a harsh way. Pretty reasonable stuff on the whole, not something I'd go out of my way to get in the US, but definitely worth trying if you find yourself in Romania.

Romanian Schwarzbier? Interesting. Of the 3 Romanian beers I got from my sister, this is the only one on BA with a somewhat respectable score so I'm looking forward to checking this out.
My first impression is that this is not in fact a Schwarzbier, but just a Euro dark strong lager since the color is a dark brown with orange tints. Very light brown creamy frothy head with little visible carbonation in the beer itself.
Aroma is dominated by caramel and very soft water. Much like a Scotch Ale, but a little lighter.
Taste is really like a lightly carbonated English Mild... well an imperial English mild at 7% alcohol. Somewhat floral from the fermentation, with most of the flavor coming from a strong dose of crystal malts.
Mouthfeel is way undercarbonated. That combined with a strange thickness or alcohol-ness to it makes it quite hard to drink.

Only so slightly caramelized taste, reminding of some more famous belgian varieties.
A bit strong to have it as a refresher on a hot summer day, as it only comes in 0.5L bottles.
Works great with most snack/tapas, like hams, most cheeses and basically anything salty. Not the best match for richer food like curries or sauces.

Creamy beige can head that trails over cherry brown body.
Toasty nose with some cherry stone.
Snap wheat crackers, some tin, light blonde toffee, brown pear, and mild spice to end.
Almond skin finish and yeasty linger.
Lt-med, creamy, slight cling.
Not as cloying at Timi Bruna. Nice silky body, too. This would be easy to session if the strength were a bit lower.
Most like a proper dunkelweiss.

Beer bottle (50cl), tasted in 2005.
Appearance : dark brown color with white foam head.
Smell: malt aroma of caramel
Taste and mouthfeel : Mild caramel and molasses flavors with a moderate sweetness.
Drinkability: a good beer in the style German Schwarzbier

From a bottle brought back from Romania a couple of months ago and kept chilled. One of the best beers from the region! Poured with a nice head and some lace. Color is like aged cherry wood. Roasty, malty, a bit of anise. full body. intriguing. a nice hint of alcohol. Great finish. no off flavors. Better than than their other beers.

I've got to agree with the first line of largadeer's review below. That's all I read of his review, too, by the way. This was my go-to beer in Romania. First tried it at Agape Restaurant in Cluj-Napoca, and tried it many more times after that. The review below is written using notes from that first experience in Cluj.
Poured into a small goblet.
Appearance: Muddy brown body with orange highlights. Looks like maple syrup when held to light. Should be a little more opaque if it's a schwarzbier, but is it really a schwarzbier? Head is foamy, khaki-colored, and two fingers in height initially, though it decays to a small crown after a few minutes.
Smell: Caramel, prunes, and lots of rich woody scents. Alcohol is quite apparent. Smells thin in body, but rich in flavor.
Taste: Dark cherries, molasses, come sort of wood - not oak or pine, leafy hops, and alcohol. Got some chocolate in later tastings. Some of the sweet caramel and dark fruit flavors hang around in the aftertaste, making the alcoholic dryness much more bareable. Overall, pretty tasty. Much more flavorful than most schwarzbiers.
Mouthfeel: Pretty thin, warm, dry, and mildly carbonated. Wish the alcohol didn't play such a large role.
Drinkability: Other than the thin, dry feel, this one was very pleasant. I definitely recommend it to anyone traveling through Romania.

Beautiful brown color, with a compact beige head.
Malty and caramel smell, on the sweet side, but acceptable.
Pleasant in the mouth, again malt and caramel, but well balanced, after all.
Light to medium body, average aftertaste, with caramel and a hint of light burnt.
Some touches of balancing bitterness.

AndoBrew brought back a shlew of Romanian beers from his recent European excursion. I'm told Romanian beer can be a real special treat. Here's hoping!
Apperance: Pours a clear, dark brown body with a lush, fizzy off-white head.
Smell: Bready dark malt aroma of caramel and molasses. Hint of almonds.
Taste: Mild caramel and molasses flavors with a moderate sweetness. Again, there's that hint of almond. There's only a very vague hint of hops. Ultimately, the beer finishes pretty sweet.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: It's okay, but so far the clear-cut winner of Romanian Beer Nite!
