Notes/Commercial Description:
Grodziskie, a smoked wheat ale, is considered to be the the only beer style native to Poland. This style was popular across much of Poland and northern Germany during the 19th Century and into the 20th up to the first World War. Thought to have been born sometime in the 14th Century, this beer style disappeared in the 1990s when the last brewery in Poland producing it closed.

Poured from a 64 oz. growler from Shoreline Beverage (Huntington, NY) into a tall wheat beer glass.

Ap- 3 finger white mostly fluffy head; cloudy golden/yellow body

S- Different smokey aromas including oak

T- Very smokey oak/wheat tastes; not just saying this but slight tastes of "liquid kielbasa" (the smokiness/wheat I assume)

M- A little syrup like in consistencey, but ok.

O- This Grodziskie (Oak-Smoked Wheat) Polish-style-revival beer is certainley unique. The smokiness is surprising at first, but throughout the drink it gets better and is very enjoyable. My second glass of the day was paired with kielbasa and brats and added to the experience

A - Cloudy peach colored pour. There is no foam retention or lacing on this Visible sediment in the beer and the carbonation that is active in the pour goes fast.

S - Campfire smoke, hickory bbq, and malt. The smoke is clearly aged as it is subdued and permeates the nostrils.

T - Initial sip has a strong tartness that puckers the lips. Not a brett yeast tangy flavor; almost like a tart fruit. Smoky flavor is a wonderful contrast to the tartness. Finish has a flavor of roasted pork.

M - Incredible experience drinking this. It is so unique and flavorful that while one glass is enough, I'm hooked on each sip!

O - Love this beer when I tried it at the North Fork Craft festival, and the bottle was just as good. So worth trying because I doubt you've had a flavor experience like this. Blind Bat once again shows that creativity in brewing knows no limits.

Pours a hazy golden color with a fluffy moderate bubbled white head that slowly settles into a light cap. Spot on wheat beer appearance.

Wow, what an aroma. Never smelt something like this before. The beer has quite a tart and sour aroma. Big unripe apple and lemon and sour farmhouse funk. This is then coupled with a big smoke aroma. Big woody scent with an appropriate amount of smoke. Quite unique, not sure what to think.

Big lemony notes to start and very unripe apple with a farmhouse funk. Think berliner weissebier. Then comes the smoke. Very meaty without going overboard or cloying. The wood pairs nicely with the sour wheat malt and the smoke adds a nice smoked meat flavor. Very appropriate amount of smoke for a blonde wheat ale. While I am not sure what I think about a sour smokey brew, this is quite unique and well made. It is very much on both ends of the flavor spectrum. This won't be for everyone but damn is this interesting.

Moderate body with very fizzy carbonation, burns a bit. Tart and sour on the palate, has a savory finish.

I'm a big smoke fan and not so much a sour fan, so this beer is a bit of a puzzle to me. Definitely have not had a beer remotely like this. I think it would warrant its own style if enough brewers made this. I recommend trying it as it is so unique.

A: into a weizen glass (since it's a wheat beer?), hazy pale gold body, brief finger of fine off-white head

S: smoky and slightly sweet - earthy, herbal, spicy

T: wow - sour - didn't expect it - but I really liked it; wheat and smoke undertone flavors; lemony sour citrus and grapefruit; woody and floral accents

M: crisp, tart, light, zesty, clean-finishing, refreshing

O: I have never had a grodziskie, and I am usually not one for sour beer, but this was real nice drink. Lots of flavors and complexity - the smoke and sour combination was extremely compelling.

Poured a slightly hazy medium straw hue with a two finger foamy white cap. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured an upfront hardwood smoke and a secondary ester.

The taste was of course smoky, but not overpoweringly so. The essence of the wheat malt was discernible, as were teh yeast esters.

The mouthfeel was typical of a hefe.

Overall a tasty beer representative of an interesting style.

From a bottle, pours a bright yellow with bubbly carbonation and a white swirling head.

The nose is all smoke, really have to work to get past that at first. Cured meats mixed with wheat fighting against the funk that is in the beer. The flavor is funky, lemon zest, very acidic and sour, no hops whatsoever. Finish is salty with a little smoke.

Overall, this was ok, a little too weird for me, but some may like it.
