Visited here twice in June 2010...
The bar is located on the busy and picturesque Stonegate behind the York Brewery shop... not too far from York Minster either...
Inside there are three rooms and one small L shaped bar. As we had our three year old daughter with us we could only use the upstairs room which we had to ourselves. This was a bit like your grannies dining room - all flowery carpet and wooden seats. We had a large table with an excellent view over Stonegate Street which was good for people watching...
Bar had five handpumps - 4 from the York Brewery and one guest. A small selection of bottled beers were also available...
Had two beers from the York Brewery - Centurions Ghost and Guzzler. My wife had the Yorkshire Terrier and the guest beer (this was Castle Rock Elsie Mo). All were served in perfect condition...
Can't really comment on the food - our daughter had a cheese and ham sandwich and that was it !!
Service was very friendly and knowledgable...
Overall this is a fine pub and very handy to visit as it's slap bang in the middle of the city... recommended...

After a surprisingly uneventful drive from London to York, very surprising considering that it was my first attempt at driving on the other side of the road, and finding a B&B in extremis, we got to roam around the city walls and eventually ended up here.
Very nice atmosphere, for a real ale pub I was sort of expecting an old man's bar, but instead it was quite a young croud, staff was in their 20's as well. 4-5 handpumps and a few bottles, some decent cider for the little missus. We sat in a quiet corner near to the right of the bar.
Selection was nice, the local York brewery was well represented, and a few guest Beers could be found. I could have spent considerable time here, but we were hungry and food service is only during lunch hours. A good bet in York.

This tiny bar is situated behind the York Brewery Bottle shop on Stonegate, with separate entrance at the side, or go through the shop itself. Three small rooms, two adjacent to the small L shaped bar, and one with glass roof and tables in the rear courtyard. Plain wood panelled walls, tables and chairs and with historic photos and beer related signs on the walls.
At time of visit (March 2008) eight hand pulls were on, five with the York Brewery own excellent beers, and three guest beers. In addition Erdinger Weiss on tap and several bottled foreign beers too. The bar staff very knowledgable about the beers they had, and excellent friendly service. A sampler tray of 4 third pint glasses of any of the York Brewery Beers can be ordered too.
Basic simple lunchtime food is available and was good and good value. Beer and food prices average for York City Centre.
Was found to be fairly quiet early lunchtimes and we always managed to get a seat mid-day and early evenings, even though on a popular busy street - the frontage almost hides the fact that it is a pub inside too!
High recommended from the several visits we made during a week in March, with good service and excellent York Brewery beers (in common with the Last Drop Inn of course)
York Beers can also be ordered to take home in larger quantities for parties etc.
