After several visits...

With this particular Sharp Edge location, the beer selection is the only thing that brings me back. There are hundreds of restaurants in the South Hills, but few have a beer selection that even comes close to Sharp Edge.

It's an OK restaurant, though I find the food menu to be limited and what you do get costs a few dollars more than it should.

The beer selection is very good, though again a dollar or two more than comparable establishments per drink. The happy hour specials however are very worth the visit.

Service on the food side has been spotty on almost every visit, with portions of orders delivered well after the meal or forgotten altogether. As this has been on more than one occasion, it is a habit, not a random occurrence or coincidence.

Just be prepared to wait a bit for food and be sure to keep asking if they forget something. Sometimes you have to ask several times to get what you order. And remember, it's about the beer...

It wouldn't be fair to judge too harshly considering that the number of "beer bars" south of Pittsburgh is limited. The Sharp Edge definitely fulfills it's mission as a place dedicated to being a "Belgian Beer Bar."

The beer selection is great compared to most places, but average compared to other craft beer bars. The taps rotate quickly - and by quick I mean the waitress will tell you they have a beer only to find out it just ran out. While the wait-staff will check the selection and give you the current list, they don't provide much in the way of "beer knowledge". This is the kind of place where the descriptions of the beer are almost always either "bitter" or "dark" as if those two phrases can summarize the whole of the beer taste spectrum. This lack of knowledge carries all the way up to managers. Case in point, though they carry "Old Engine Oil" no one had apparently ever heard of "Ola Dubh."

The food is good, if not overpriced. The spacious seating is comfortable. If you're already a beer geek and you know your way around an expansive beer menu then the few hiccups at this place won't encumber a great experience.

Sharp Edge has an impressive selection of Belgian beer. However, it is, in my opinion, way too expensive. There aren't many drafts under $10. Even for Belgian's this is a bit pricey.

The food is also a bit on the expensive side but is excellent. The french fries are hand cut. I had the chicken sandwich and it was amazing. The cheesey potato soup was fantastic.

The service was definitely lacking. We saw our server to take our order. Someone else brought our food to us. Our server returned about a half hour later to deliver the check. So I only got to try one beer. Guess that's ok considering the prices.

I would go back to Sharp Edge for the food. The beer is just too expensive to go back when I can go to Fat Heads or Mad Mex and get great micro brews for half the price.

While I feel that the Sharp Edge is a bit needlessly expensive... we still go there every week, and love it. Any kind of beer that you are in the mood for, they have. Plus, they will have multiple brands for you to pick from. The bar staff is friendly and knowledgeable. If you like a specific beer they can usually recommend a few others that are similar for you to compare. They even re-clean every glass before pouring each beer. I just wouldn't suggest ordering a Coors Light there, ha! I always sit at the bar so I can not comment on the table staff.

Sharp Edge has proven to be top notch, so when my wife got me to go with her to the Tanger outlets in Washington, PA I told her I know where we're eating. Our directions got us on some back roads that were quite enjoyable although I now see you can get to this place almost directly off of I-79. A great time for me and my wife to have a night out without the little ones. I believe we each had a Corsendonk Xmas half off, followed by AV Winter Solstice, Smuttynose Winter, and Delirium Tremens Noel. I also had a fresh DFH 60 minute drawn from the Sir Hops a Lot hops infuser they created. More of the same charm of the Sharp Edge is known for, this one hosts a more open commercial vibe than the rest of the chain's locations. The beer library was cool but a bit jacked from the Bocktown concept, considering I talked to Jeff the owner of the Sharpe Edge a few times during the grand opening of the first Bocktown I felt like this was a bit of low blow. However, two different beer styles cooking. Sharp Edge is focused on the Belgians yes the carry the micros and imports as well but their trademark lands during happy hour from 4:30 to 6:30 every weekday with half off belgian drafts and dollar off micro or import drafts. Food wise quality as usual this time around we got my favorite Ostrich Burger and my wife went with a build your own burger. We shared an order of their pomme frites and sweet potato fries to get a mix, excellent. Regular pricing could very well bury your pocket book but with the half off deal close to the holidays we feel we made out on the experience. I will be back for sure, when I make it out this way. It angers me that I don't make it to the Creekhouse like I used to in my years before the proverbial horse and carriage arrived.

I live only a couple miles from this location, so it's quite convenient to get to for good beer. I used to live down the street from the Sharp Edge Beer Emporium back when it was a small 'hole in the wall' type pub with an excellent selection, and have been to all of the other locations on numerous ocassions.

The beer is very good, as is typical of all of the Sharp Edge locations. Many tap selections, and an excellent bottle list (both for micros and belgians). The beer selection gets an A.

Waitstaff is hit or miss. Some have a clue about beer and can make valid recommendations, but that's the exception and not the rule. I find that you'll have much better luck at the bar as the bartenders have excellent beer knowlege.

The food is poor quality, and expensive. It might be passable at half the price, but $14 mediocre salads, and $12 mediocre burgers are the norm. I once ordered a 'grinder' that they had on special (monthly special) that ended up being $12 and the quality of what I received in the cafeteria in grade school. The entres are typically sub-par at a price that will make you wish you hadn't ordered. The selections with the best price to quality ratio are probably the pizza's.

Overall, the place is an excellent beer bar (this establishment is HUGE, and non-smoking) which gives it high marks in my books, but come for the beer, not for the food.

YMMV - wofat

I've been to the mothership location and this has a different feel to it...located in a strip mall and the interior is antiseptic and huge. I can't imagine they will ever fill this place, it's so large. I usually like smaller interiors with pub like ambiance. Waitstaff is friendly and knowledgeable while the food is forgettable. This is not a place to go for the food. If you are a Belgian beer fan, this is the place...huge bottle selection and wide variety on tap. I'm not a big Belgian fan but had no trouble finding tap beer I liked. I had some Leffe, Duvel and Chimay. I will return again when I visit Pittsburgh area since my brother and an old friend live nearby.

The atmosphere is good if a little bland compared to the other Sharp Edge that I had been in (Crafton).

Quality was exceptional. No complaints here.

Service was great. Had a guy offer me several suggestions when the beer I went for was OOS in the bottle shop, and he came over when I decided to sit at the bar and suggest some more. Very knowledgeable staff and quick on the draw. They kept me happy the entire visit, which is not something I can say about many bars.

Selection was outstanding. The only thing holding this from a five is that I have seen places with more bottles, but you'd be hard pressed to find something (within reason) that they don't have. Draft selection is damn near perfection.

Food was great. I had the buffalo bites, which were fantastic, and the pizza...which where I see what they are going for, I prefer my pizza thick and saucy..the opposite of their belgian style.

Value is my one big qualm..the bottle shop is very overpriced. The draft selection however was reasonable during happy hour. Half off belgian drafts (of which there were at least 15) and a dollar off all other drafts and bottles.

For mixed sixers, I'd probably stick to the headkeeper, but for happy hour, there's no place i'd rather spend my dough.

Stopped for lunch one Friday afternoon. Located in a shopping plaza across from a Sear's Auto off of Rte 19. Look for their sign on top of the hill.

Atmosphere/Decor: Contempory decor with a bottle shop immediately on your right when you walk in. Neat and easy to find what you are looking for.

Beer: Typical standard offering for a Sharp Edge establishment. When I say typical, that means excellent selection of Belgian Beers on Tap or Bottle. I started with a Pumpking and then had a Wittkerke on tap. Wife had GLB Porter.

Food: Had the Fish Special for lunch, was good and would order again.

Overall, I think this is the nicest Sharp Edge out off all 4. Selection was excellent, service was Ok but be prepared to spend some cash if shopping the bottle shop.

Nice place, never seems to be too noisy, a few TVs behind the bar and an otherwise friendly restaurant feel. The service is good. All the bartenders are friendly and seem to know their stuff. The quality and selection of beer is exceptional. All sorts of good Belgians and micros on tap and in bottles, plus growlers to take home. You'll want to go at happy hour for price reasons if you can. They have a mystery beer than you can get a growler of for 10 bucks. They reveal what the beer was I believe the following day.

EDIT: the mystery beer is revealed when they finish off the cask.
