I finally got around to visiting Julians after much procrastination - what can I say, I live in Coventry and work in Middletown. Although I do have to say that the Longest Night of the Year party with J.W. Lees Calvados was a great motivator. I don't know how much more can be said, that hasn't been already. Definitely gives off a cool hipster vibe with a pretty eclectic bunch of patrons; very laid back atmosphere. I have to say that I was pretty blown away by the size of the kitchen area, relative to the rest of the restaurant/bar - it was huge, and it's kind of cool to be able to see your food being made; however, there is definitely a drawback in that the size of the bar area is substantially reduced. Tap selection was nothing short of exceptional - I had the Lees on cask, as well as the BBC Holidale on cask which was pretty awesome. Other highlights were Curieux, Avec Les Bon Vieux, a beer which cannot be named (but was awesome), Aventinus, My Antonia (wish I tried it), Tillburg Brown, etc. They also featured a generous sized bottle cooler with bombers and were featuring Sculpin. Brian Oakley was very friendly and welcoming, which definitely contributed to a positive experience. I can't comment on the food; however, it looked and smelled great. Tap prices were a little higher than I am used to, but the selection definitely moderates that price differential to some degree. There are four definite regional beer hubs in RI in my opinion - Pitcher's in Northern, Track 84 in Kent, Pour Judgment in Newport and Julians in Providence. Well worth your time if you are in Providence. (1,602 characters)

Place looks like a typical college dive bar from the outside. Inside, pretty much the same, but I like it. Crowd was pretty much college students mixed with a few older gentleman as well as a few "in the band" type of guys. I was surprised by the techno music blaring over the house system. There were about 12 or so brews on tap. I had an Easy Jack and a Grunion from Ballast Point. A few local favorites as well. Had some really nice bottles in the cooler: 2013 Parabola, 2012 Sucaba plus a few sours that caught my eye as well. Service was pretty good. Didn't have to wait too much for a refill. I ordered a Reuben and it was really good, actually. They threw a twist on it with the chipotle 1000 island. Pretty cool little joint.. (742 characters)

Love this place. Great craft beer selection while perhaps a bit heavy on the imports. Killer brunch, but this is a restaurant first not a bar. When busy, service can be a bit absent. And if you want to talk about beer, this probably isn't your spot. (249 characters)

I get up to RI a lot and I've heard about Julian's many times but I thought of it more as restaurant. I was up with my wife recently and she convinced me to give it a try. And I was pleasantly surprised that they have a nice little bar as well.

The place is small but very interesting and relaxing. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The beer list is very good, especially for RI. We split a bottle of Keraterra by Proclamation. It was the best and most interesting RI beer I've had.

Our visit was quick but I really enjoyed it and look forward to getting back there soon. (584 characters)

Insane beer list included KBS, Sam Adams Utopia, 2010 Worldwide Stout, 2007 Raison d'extra, and Stone Old Guardian 22oz Vertical 2006-2011. (139 characters)

Interesting vibe, maybe they have movie nights on Sunday (they had labyrinth playing on a large projector when I went). Very dark, but kind of nice. Awesome selection on draft, but very pricey (as expected by the niche brews). (226 characters)

This place is a must for belgian beer lovers. The food is terrific and they have a number of specialty dinners every year. I would give it a 5, but sometimes the place can get crowded and service can be a bit slow. That being said, for an overall dining experience in Providence for a beer lover, this one can't be beat. (321 characters)
