This is probably the best craft beer spot in NE that I know of. I have yet to frequent Prance on Main.

The atmosphere is very sports bar related and i proves for a good time when you're with a large amount of people. The high rise tables and construction of the bar is solid. The lower tables are not the most appealing things to relax on.

The service is pretty good when they are not busy, excellent service from the primarily female serving staff.

The selection of this place varies, though doesn't quite compare with some of the other bigger beer bars. They used to have an extraordinary happy hour with some seriously good deals that led me to indulge a little too much. They have since restructured that and have different tiers that correspond to different pricing. This can be a bit of a drag, as a beer that was once $2 is not $4.00?

Food is pretty bar food oriented and frequent deals on appetizers that are not that expensive to begin with.

Great college themed sports bar with decent ambience, food, and respectible beer selection.

Stopped by Macs after a Gophers football game and the place was just hoppin' with fans and beer enthousiasts.

Ordered a rueben sandwhich. Portions of food and sides were impressive and came to the table quickly.

Beer selection was impressive, I think they had 20-30 taps of local and micros from out of state with signage showing that they have a good selection of rotating beers.

I would absolutely go back after a game. The place was packed which did detract and our visit wasnt solely beer based but was still surprised by the selection and quality.

In my opinion, this is one of the best place to drink beer on a budget in N.E. Minneapolis.

The service has always been friendly. Sometimes it is hit or miss if the server will know much about beer, but they are more then happy to provide as many samples as needed. [2009, edit] For almost all of this year the various waitstaff has been pretty knowledgeable about the beer on tap.

The happy hour is great ($2 taps). And the location is just far enough out of downtown to find street parking.

Oh, and the food is fantastic. I'd recommend the peanut butter and bacon sandwich. They have the usual assortment of bar food plus some extras. But even the standard bar food has some special touches.

I've been coming to this place regularly since they opened. While not a big place, it has an open, spacious feel which readily accommodates just about everyone that walks through the front door. There's a couple of pool tables in the back, a MegaTouch machine, an internet jukebox, and a few tables out front for al fresco dining and drinking in the warmer months. Most importantly, there are 27 taps and nothing that I'd call crap (though no doubt purists might disagree.) The service has always been good, friendly, and attentive, and if you're sitting at the bar the bartenders are a lively and conversational bunch. In general this place is lively, youthful, and laid-back all at once.

Back to the selection for a minute. As opposed to the nearby NE Bulldog, Surly fans can find their fix here, along with Rush River, Summit, Bell's, and yes folks (drumroll please) Fat Tire. But those with a taste for imports will also find themselves at home, with Pilsner Urquell, Peroni, and Guinness on tap. Now before anyone turns their nose up at the mention of big-imports, the Industrial has also been known to have a Belgian-style ale on tap from time to time, and this would've been unthinkable in this bar's former incarnation*, let alone the rest of NordEast until about three or four years ago. More recently, August Schell, Flat Earth, and Brau Brothers have all made it into the tap rotation. Overall, think Stub and Herb's with less of a Gopher vibe and you're on the right track.

The menu is imaginative and a cut above your average sports bar, with a half-dozen or so signature burgers and sides. They even offer a weekend brunch, so those of you who've had your fill bar-hopping in the area might enjoy that option (you can't always hit the Vegas Lounge, y'know!) My personal favorite is the BBQ Bacon Cheseburger, and I will always recommend the Rings of Fire -- I get those every time I visit.

No doubt there are some purists (raise your hands. please, so we can identify you . . .) who would consider Mac's Industrial to be déclassé, but hell, not all of us can afford a trip to The Happy Gnome for our beer bar needs, and Mac's is an affordable and unpretentious option that's well worth a visit when you find yourself on the other side of the river from downtown.

* Years ago, I was a regular at the bar that formerly occupied this space. And while comparing the two is more of an apples and potatoes rather than an apples and oranges affair, it's safe to say that Mac's is generally regarded as an improvement over the Union Grille and Bar. MacNamara's is another story: I miss the steak and eggs breakfast (with complimentary bloody mary), the local riff-raff, and the sports fans and cops that would call that place home. Somebody pass me a tissue...
