Nice dopplebock. Great bready munich malt aroma. On the low end of alcohol for the style, warm toasty malt, smooth for the strength. Basically a perfectly executed, by the numbers doppelbock, and I love it for that. Like a fresh version of Opptimator. Good show Potosi!

Pours brown with a ruby tint. A thin beige head becomes a wide island. A little lacing sticks.

The smell is of toffee, cocoa/chocolate, dried fruits, slight alcohol.

The taste is of chocolate/cocoa powder, toffee. Dried fruits and a hint of toasted dark bread mix in. Mild earthy notes are present. Sweet, but balanced enough. Some alcohol warmth shows, but doesn't interfere. Semi-sweet finish.

It hit full-body. A touch of fizz almost brought it down just a bit, but it hangs in there.

This is a nice example of a doppelbock. Not as rich as some traditional classics, but overall it's a solid interpretation of a darker doppelbock.

Bottle poured into a shaker pint.

A - Mahogany in color with good clarity. Tan head holds a smaller cap. No lacing.

S - A wealth of caramel malts. Nuttiness and more mild fruitiness.

T - Starts with some nice caramel malts. Shows a red fruit quality midway and finishes with some astringent roast malts. Mineral quality. Lacks sweetness and smoothness.

M - Medium-full body, semi-sweet but finishes a little dry, medium carbonation.

O - Leading up to the taste, all was enticing. The taste though had some strange characters that were unusual and therefor hard to detail. Maybe its a mineral quality or a carbonation bite or possibly a strange hop bitterness but in summary, it lacked drinkability. To stay positive, it has plenty of aroma dimension and looks good.

Recommendation - Support your local Wisconsin brewery and give this a try but don't go too far for it, there are many imports better.
