32oz growler purchased from Ray's Growler Gallery opening weekend.

Poured into pint glass.

Appearance: Pours jet-black with a cream colored head that fairly quickly dissipates. no bubbles within the beer of note.

Smell: Vanilla, rye, chocolate all swirled into a tempting mix.

Taste: Caramel, chocolate, vanilla, oatmeal, oak notes that float above the rye whiskey that hits at the end. As this warms, the whiskey notes pick up a little more, but they blend even better with the rest.

Mouthfeel: No residue afterwards. Small bit of rye whiskey aftertaste..

Overall: Yum. Very, very yum.

'13 vintage on tap.

A. Glassy black with a puffy tan head.

S. Marshmallow and chocolate, some char and rye.

T. Taste is sweet up front with caramel and cocoa, followed by astringent roast and tannins.

M. Medium-bodied, creamy.

O. A decent stout. The mild astringency isn't great but besides that this is tasty.

Pours jet black with a thin head that becomes an island. Little lacing sticks.

The smell is of robust bourbon - anise, chocolate, coffee.

The taste of bourbon is strong. Chocolate, anise and coffee come through.

It is sharp - body could be fuller, but it is full enough to work well enough.

Overall, this is a wonderful stout with a rich bourbon character!

A: Pours deep dark color, with a slightly tan head. Head lingers for a few minutes slowly dissipating. Decent lacing.

S: Smells like templeton rye and a stout.

T: Since this is based off of the fiddler oatmeal stout you can still get a bit of the oatmeal characteristics. Nice rye flavor but still has some of the oak flavor as well which is really nice. Good roasted barley/malt character as well, chocolate and vanilla notes present.

M: Smooth and velvety as an oatmeal stout should be. Carbonation is present but not at the forefront which is nice from a bigger beer like this.

O: I read reviews about this beer on rate beer, and it is much better than I expected it to be. I think that this is something for everyone to definitely give a try. If it were available in bottle I would like to see if it was cellarable.
