Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Better than a "pure-cave malt ale". ...I guess... Anyway, this stuff pours a clear brass-amber topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises soft biscuit, softer grass, and even softer flowers. The taste brings in more of the same, though things are stronger (harder, I guess...) in general, and the biscuit has a vague hint of fruitiness about it. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, a nice, if nondescript, little beer. Not bad, just nothing special.

12 oz. bottle poured into a cervoise glass

Pours a light golden amber capped with a two finger bright white head. Slightly above average retention, no lacing. Grassy hops, light almond, and a hint of caramel. Opens with grass, hay, hints of nuts and toffee midpalate. Finishes fairly crisp and clean. Light bodied, fairly slick with moderate, gentle carbonation. A solid, easy drinking English style pale ale. Very enjoyable.

Poured into a pint glass.

2.5 A: Faintly hazed medium orange color. Fizzy head fell as quickly as it formed.

3.5 S: Caramel and toastiness are the main attractions here. Pleasant neutral malt sweetness to round this out.

3.5 T: Again caramel and toast. Neutral sweetness. Not a lot of hops, but enough to balance the brew well.

3.5 M: Lighter medium to medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Clean and crisp with a light creaminess.

3.5 D: For some reason I thought this beer would suck ass (just based on the label and twist off bottle), but it turned out to be a solid, quite drinkable brew.

A - Clear, light amber color with a medium to small sized, smooth, foamy, off-white head. Average retention leaving minimal lace.

S - Very malty aroma. Caramel, sweet bread, and touches of toffee/butterscotch. Touch of creamy sweetness. Hints of earthy hops.

T - Sweet malt makes up most of the taste. Caramel, toffee, butterscotch, and plenty of sweet bready flavors. A bit of creamy sweetness and honey. A bit of earthy hops can be found if you are looking for them, but this is a malt driven beer.

M - Medium to light body with average carbonation. Smooth and creamy.

D - Very sweet malty beer. Not cloying sweetness, but a hardy malt sweetness. Could see this as a beer to drink while grilling. Not hard to drink, but not enticing either.

Notes: Wasn't really sure what the style should be. All I know is that it is a very malty beer. Very little hop presence. I like it for what it is, but I wasn't wowed by it. Decent beer for the price.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a nonic glass.

A: Clear, brassy golden color with one finger of diminishing white foam head. Scant lacing remains on the glass and scattered bubbles rise throughout the column.

S: Toasty, with faint mixed fruit that marries well with the assertive malt. Trace butterscotch adds to the overall profile.

T: Begins barely off-dry, with delicate refined malt that is less bready than it could be. Acidity is lively and a little disruptive prior to the middle, where fruit stands out. A distinct whiff of cherry fruit develops and lingers, losing intensity but not vanishing entirely in the relatively vacant, seltzery, and occasionally rubbery finish. As the beer warms, more rustic bread notes emerge late.

M: Thin to medium viscosity, slightly acidic and sticky on the palate, with brisk carbonation.

D/O: Unremarkable in the final tally, this pale ale cultivates some nice malt and yeast features in the nose that transmit inconsistently to the flavor. Hops are well-disguised here, with the focus placed on other ingredients. It is a reasonable choice for washing down a meal, but there isn't much more to see here than in a latter-day Bass ale.
