A faint sweet coffee greeted me on popping the top and became more of a citrus coffee as I poured into the glass. Once the four fingers of latte foam settled into the opaque coffee-colored liquid, I took a taste... smoke, bitter orange faintly, coffee, maybe a bit of toaster pastry, a certain creaminess that ended rather astringently and slightly bitter. OK, but nothing special.

I got a bottle of this beer off the single shelf from a beer store in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. It poured an opaque dark with essentially no head and no lace. The scent had subtle roast notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with dark roast malt and subtle semi sweet chocolate highlights. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a good beer.

Pours a nice deep brown color with a very thick head of foam that sticks around for a little bit. It's smells like coffee and malt. The flavour is very pleasant almost like chocolate covered espresso beans with a super thin layer of chocolate. Very nice carbonation, that goes down very smooth. Overall I would definitely recommend trying this beer.

12 oz bottle, poured into a snifter. Pours dark brown, nearly black, with a huge fluffy light tan head. Aroma and flavor offer coffee, dark roasted malts, earthy hops, and a hint of bitter chocolate. VERY roasty with some char and smoke. The roastiness is the defining characteristic of this beer. Overall, a solid porter.

a woefully underrated robust porter, a pleasant surprise from the back of the fridge, and a beer that deserves more credit than it appears to be getting here. this is deep and dark, silky smooth, and with an excellent interplay between bitter dark roasted barley and more hops than i am used to in the style at the end, but also between a flavorful ale yeast strain and the baked caramely middle of this, lots of synergistic relationships here, and the beer drinks big and wintery all the way though. the roasted grain profile is great, really quite intense, ashy and charred at times, rich with cocoa and espresso in other moments, but building up to a dry and bitter finish. its complex, it warms up well, and its frothy feeling without being too heavy, nicely carbonated, and with equal contributions from all of its elements. a very well comprised beer with subtle licorice and raisin flashes in the center and a freshness from the hops at the end. i am surprised this isnt better liked here on BA, i think its a great example of the style, more flavorful than many, and a really enjoyable beer overall.

Not too good, it's stale dark roast, some bittersweet chocolatey flavor sand a bitter roast finish. I'm glad I only bought one, I didn't care for this beer. I'm not a huge porter guy but this just Isn't anything I'd go back to.

Pours out a hazelnut brown color, forming a deep chocolate bod with a beige head of 1/2 finger.

Aromas of roast malts, river water, chalk, and sour milk.

Basic roast malt profile, albeit stale; followed by chalk and unsweetned cocoa.

Feel is on the light side for a porter, but still within spec.

Overall, just a drain pour. It's not even a sad drain pour. Too chalky, too stale, too light bodied.

Pretty good stuff. Bittersweet, without being overly sweet. Which is a pleasant change these days. A bit roasty. Sort of going in the direction of Guinness. Easy drinking. Very nice finish.

With a very dark, cloudy brown, the aroma is effervescent dark chocolate and baker’s chocolate, along with the slightly astringent, but pleasantly sweet cocoa flavor. The mouthfeel is creamy smooth and it fits with the straight coffee aftertaste, as it starts to get slightly dry with time. This is very interestingly crafted, but I recommend the Chocolate Ale from Boulevard Brewing, Eugene Porter from Revolution Brewing, the Decadent Dark Chocolate Ale from Atwater Brewing as well as the Edmund Fitzgerald from Great Lakes Brewing Company. Other similar beers are the Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale from New Belgium Brewing and the Coconut Molasses Brown Ale from Duck Foot Brewing.
