My last Holy Mackerel beer in the fridge.

Panic Attack. 'A Trippel and Saison Fusion'. 10%. Hold onto your jets, folks.

Poured with very little head. None now. Murky orange river water color. No lacing. 2.5

Smells like a shandy. Some sweet orange and lemonade along with a colorful yeast character. A little heavy syrup and peach-in-a-can. Spices like white pepper and coriander, but subdued compared to the fruitiness. 2.5

Flavor is OFF. Cheap, sugary lemonade with from-concentrate orange juice and ground pepper. Coriander, stone fruits, treacle syrup or honey. This beer is all over the place and wacky. The syrupy sweetness is cloying. There is honestly nothing more I can say about this beer. No hop presence, not much of a malt. 2.0

The mouthfeel is hugely thick. Thick and cloyingly sweet. Not much carbonation traceable. Hard to get down. Only impressive fact is that it's not carrying the booze that I would expect from such a high gravity offering. Sticks to the lips. I don't know what to think. 2.0

This beer is pretty awful. It's not a tripel. It's not a saison, by any means. Excuse my language, but this beer is just a fuck-up. The 10% just means I can't so easily end the night with a good beer because I wasted enough tolerance on this one. 2.0

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #53 (June 2011):

Brewer’s intention is to merge a Tripel and a Saison. The head sticks around, with a hazed orange amber color underneath. Spicy, fruity nose of musk, lemon, honey, mango, wild herbs, rose water and a big hit of estery alcohol. Moderate-sized body. Very spicy and alcoholic, the honey-like sweetness and exotic fruit go hand-in-hand. Cinnamon and roses come to mind. Alcohol just doesn’t want to let go, very warming ... almost hot. Maltiness has a decent base but gives itself up for the fruit, alcohol and spice. No real balance here—an off-the-wall Belgian that struggles to be even somewhat drinkable. Still worth a try.

Grabbed a 12oz bottle at Total Wines. Had try this before it was even released at Stage 84, and I got to say that everybody loved this beer.

Appearance - Dark orange color.
Smell - Great sweet "belgian" smell.
Taste/Mouthfeel/Drink-ability - Sweet malts. Strong brew, be careful, it goes down so smooth that you might end up drinking more than what you are supposed to.

If you get the chance, try it in the tap, give it a second chance.

Holy Mackerel Brewing LLC "Panic Attack"
12 oz. brown glass bottle, no freshness date
$2.38 @ Trader Joe's #766, Tampa, FL

The label reads "Belgian-Style Beer A Trippel And Saison Fusion 2015" so I had to try it!

It poured a nice fluffy head of off white atop a slightly hazy deep copper body. The head retention and lacing were both quite good.

In the nose it displayed a combination of sweetish caramelish malt and dark skinned fruits (raisin, plum, fig) with a hint of brown sugar.

The flavor confirmed the notes found in the nose, and added a depth of malt that was quite nice. I'm not sure where the saison comes in because I only got minor spicing, but the rich, wide, and sweet maltiness was reminiscent of an amped up dubbel. In fact with that in mind, I think most of the dubbels I've sampled have had more spicing. But the fruitiness is nice. It also includes some tropical fruit like mango and papaya, as well as some apricot. But now that I think about it, where is the triple as well? Is it only in the strength? (The alcohol never shows, by the way).

In the mouth it's medium bodied to medium-full, and gently bristling with a fine-bubbled, median carbonation that eventually leaves it nicely smooth and almost creamy.

Overall, the label also states that it's "a fine sipping beer" and I'd have to agree. Unique and enjoyable, this may be the best Holy Mackerel beer I've had so far.

12oz bottle into tulip.
A: Light copper body, which looks a little light for style, white head pours good formation, and holds nice head retention. Light carbonation presence.
S: A dry and bubble gummy aroma, very much like a Belgian tripel.
T/M: The front is smooth and well balanced with a nice yeast flavor and hop and malt balance. Pretty mellow for the abv. The mouthfeel is rich and smooth, while not being to sharp and strong. Missing a strong yeast character of many other classic Belgians.
O: Over all a nice drinking brew, but a bit missing the lingering taste of other classic Belgians. For a brewery in the United States, this is a very nice example.

Picked this up as part of a mixed 6'er at Bottle Cap's in Daytona

A - Amber with a white foam head that settles to a thin 1/8". Lacing spots the glass.

S - Smells of sweet fruits and syrup with a bready cake aroma from the yeast.

T - Sweet fruit flavor gives to a sherry-like finish complete with a burn. A bit too heavy handed in the finish. Clearly BA classified this better as a Belgian pale than some odd "saison-tripel fusion" as the label says. Belgian yeast gives it a tartness with a slight amount of funk.

M - Just literally a hot mess. Too much spice notes and alcohol that isn't masked. One glass is more than enough.

O - Was glad to try but I'll pass. It is really not true to any Belgian style and is far too heavy to be enjoyable. Not terrible, but not solid by any means.

Poured from a 12oz bottle to a Dogfish Head Snifter.

Color: An orange-gold color with a whitehead.

Smell: Tart, hops, malts with a little sweetness.

Taste: Slightly tart with malts, hops. Slightly sweet at the end. I believe it's honey.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation, smooth with a slight dry finish

Overall: A nice tartness and sweetness to the flavor. Just not as well balanced as it should be though. A nice brew to sip. Cheers!

Had this on tap at Fifty Brews. Overall a very nice belgian amber. Can taste the alcohol in the tongue which is about the only thing that prevents this from being one of my top rated brews. Overall smell and color are very nice with a complex arrangement.

Poured a 2010 bottle into a pint glass - a fluffy white head sticks on top of a medium honey gold.

Sweet candi, almost peachy nose.

A sip is prickly and sweet, with a little hop spice on the finish. Alcohol pretty present with a hint of Belgian yeast, but not offensive as other have said due to the prominent almost bubble gum sweetness that lingers on the finish.

Medium slick body, medium light carbonation.

It's too sweet - but other than that I think this was a fair example of that end of the style.

This beer has not gotten the respect it so deserves! Holy Mackerel has blown me away with it's ability to put a new spin on an old recipe. This, to me, tastes like a mixture of a Belgian Strong Ale with a Belgian Wheat.

The whopping 10% ABV is careful not to mask the distinct flavors of citrus, oakiness, and even as you would expect in a nice glass of a deep Shiraz a hint of "earthy rubber" is the best way for me to describe it.

I'm sure to buy at least 2 bottles of this everytime i hit the liquor store because I simply love it!

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy, dark amber color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of spices, some fruits. Taste is spices, malts, light fruits, just a hint of alcohol. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a good quality beer.

It's a great looking beer but way too medicinal and unbalanced. Could barely get through a few sips as the sweetness is off putting and way too boozy
