Nice local and national selection with 27 taps plus bottles.

Just a little corner spot but pleasant outdoor area to scope out the comings and goings on the street. Doors and the big garage door windows are usually open. Oddball but intriguing food. Chorizo corn dogs. steamed pork buns, beet burger, many salads, and great sweet potato fries.

Taps included Port Mongo DIPA, Ballast Point Sculpin, Victory Whirlwind, AleSmith Speedway Stout and Nautical Nut Brown, Green Flash Trippel, Avery Maharaja, Craftsman spring pilsener, couple from Dogfish Head, Allagash, and a few Belgians.

Waitress was great, responsive, cheerful, and efficient. Enjoyed the place on a rainy spring evening but it does get jammed and it's dark inside. Nice big chalkboard for the beer list.

This is a small bar not far from the ballpark. All the window were opened for loads of fresh air. A funky tile wall of San DIego takes up the whole back space. The rest of the space is made up of metal, dark woods, and concrete and has a warehouse feel. The bar seats about 12.

On this visit there were 28 beers on draft. Loads of local California beers including Stone Vertical 12.12.12., Alpine, Mother Earth, Lagunitas, and Green Flash. The beers I had were very good and fresh.

This is a must stop for any BA in San Diego.

Visited 17 Nov 2013, 2:00-3:00pm.

After a couple hours strolling around the surrounding blocks, I stopped in at the welcoming Neighborhood. I'd read about the place here on BA and had meandered my way around the Gaslamp Quarter (enjoying architectural gems, new and old), before a pause for beer.

Located right at the corner of 8th & G, it's a fairly non-descript storefront. Inside is a pleasant indoor/outdoor space with concrete floors, wood and black tiles. On one wall, there's a nice mosaic in monochrome of San Diego's downtown skyline. Above, there's taxidermied wildlife and some simply stunning "artwork" of both Jimi Hendrix and Jesus Christ enjoying their hamburgers... wow! Otherwise, its a zig-zagging wooden bar wrapped around thick I-beam columns. To the right, it's polished stainless taps, unmarked; to the center, it's 25-30 brewery handles and a friendly bartenderess (Bree on this afternoon). A tiny walk-in cooler behind the bar holds dozens of bottles.

Beer selection is REALLY good, an array of local/regional taps well over 30 deep. From the lengthy chalkboard list above the bar I picked a Craftsman "Heavenly Hefeweizen" (super refreshing!) and then several generously-poured tastings of Stone Sublimely Self Conscious, Great Bowman's Beard AND Witty moron Dark Wheat. Ultimately I picked none of the above: Green Flash Treasure Chest was what I picked; I liked the sample but wished for something else about halfway through the pour. Lots of variety overall on the menu, many styles. Prices are generally $6 and up for pours, so certainly not the cheapest bar in town.

Biggest disappointment? Not getting food. I read (later) about the terrific burger/sandwiches, starters, etc and, frankly, wasn't hungry when visiting. Apparently, they have something against traditional ketchup, so they've crafted a dozen or so special sauces to make up for their lack of Heinz or Hunt's.

Dining in will be rectified whenever I get to return - and I will return!

Neighborhood is one of those places that I usually go to with food in mind. Their food is pretty fantastic, even though they have an odd aversion to ketchup. I've gotten multiple burgers and sandwiches here and I have absolutely never been disappointed with their food. The sweet potato fries are an absolute must if you're just trying to have a quick snack. Definitely made for sharing, so go in on them with someone else.

Their tap list is certainly impressive, but it never really has that wow factor for me. I believe there are 27 taps with a fair number of locals and a good selection of things throughout the Western United States. The quality of their beer is always high. I'm not fond of the glassware they use.

They have a tendency to get very crowded, so I recommend going during a weekday for lunch or just be very willing to wait. If you sit out on the patio you'll be able to do a fair amount of people watching, and the service will be just as good as inside.

My GF and I always have to stop by here at least once when we're in SD. Great beers and scotch. They have a wine tap for all you wine connoisseur's.

Beer: I always have a beer that I'm happy with everytime I visit. I believe I had my first Enjoy By or Vertical Epic from Stone here at Neighborhood. I'm pretty sure I've had PtE here as well.

Food: The food here has always been fantastic. There are times where I did get soggy fries, but aside from that, food has always arrived hot with tons of flavor.

Service: I've been fortunate enough to have always received the best service from the staff here at Neighborhood. Very attentive and genuine staff.

Definitely a place worth checking out if you're visiting Gas Lamp District in San Diego. Or you can go to Karl Strauss across the street..if you're into that stuff I guess.

Great place near the ball park, solid tap list of mostly California beers on my visit. I thought the food wast great too, had a burger. Service was quick and polite. Interior was nice enough, indoor out door seating. Overall worth a visit or two if you are in the area.
