500 mL can from TBS; best before Aug 2 2024 and served slightly chilled.

Pours clear golden yellow, topped with two fingers of fluffy, foamy white head that coats the glass with thick strands of lace as it recedes; a wide, frothy collar and patchy cap live on. It smells of grainy, bready pale malts and herbal, floral hops, with maybe just a whiff of sulfur.

Not bad at all - clean, bready flavour profile, with grainy pilsner malts and noble hops rounding out the back end. Slightly herbal and floral, with a hint of earthy bitterness; the aftertaste is relatively dry. Light in body, with moderate carbonation that prickles the palate in a restrained manner. Super drinkable, and a total pleasure to knock back - too bad I only bought the one can.

Final Grade: 3.76, squeaking out a B+. Veltins Pilsener is good value for the price - locally speaking, there are only a handful of Euro lagers that clock in at $2.75 per tallboy or lower, and Veltins is arguably one of the best I've had in that range. There are certainly *better* German pilsners out there - this one's not perfect, but it is perfectly acceptable. A brew that I would love to add to my rotation, if only it were reliably kept in stock around here! Absolutely recommended to pilsner fans on a budget.

Purchased at the Rewe in Markt Indersdorf a few hours after landing in Germany. Drunk that night by the Isar River in Munich.

L: Pale golden yellow with a frothy, bright white head. Low levels of carbonation can be seen in the glass. It looks like a pilsner.

S: Metallic, sweet malt but otherwise unremarkable.

T: Clean, sweet malt with moderate bitterness and the slightest kick of floral hops. The taste is as unremarkable as the nose but is pleasing and easy to drink.

M: Slightly thin, with moderate carbonic prickle. There is nothing here that would stop this being drunk in volume.

O: This is a modest beer with nothing standing out or demanding overt contemplation. As with all pilsners, this is a beer to be drunk in company, with good times and conversation the highlight while the beer lurks unobtrusively in the background.

Cheers!

Pours classic and clear gold pils. Medium carbonation, head sinks quick. Not much on the nose, slight grains and bread but not a whole lot. Nice clean initial taste, slight malt in after. Decent enough feel and happy to drink again.

Can purchased at the NLC Liquor Store in Marystown, Newfoundland, Canada. As a guy who is not really into pilsners (or lagers in general) I really enjoyed this one for what it is. Really nice. Pours a light straw color. It's not as "crisp" as some other German pilsners, but I really like this one, would buy again. Only wish it was part of the regular lineup and not just on the "seasonal" shelf.

Only wish they would have kept the same can design as the one on the picture here, rather than the all greeen can they use now. But that's not a criticism of the beer itself. But I think it might be an "import" can, as there is a Dallas, Texas address on the back of the can as well.

Appearance - clear golden body with white head

Smell - fresh cut herbs, lemon zest, bread

Taste - bready, fresh cut herbs, lemon zest

Mouthfeel - light bodied, medium carbonation, herbal and bready upfront, lemon zest on the back end

Overall - decent version of a German Pilsener, very refreshing beer to have, not quite as robust as some of its counterparts from the same country, but respectable. These cans aren't the freshest, but it was still a good drinking experience. Worth a shot.

Price Point - $5.99/ 4 pk 16.9oz cans

Having this beer on tap at the Sacsenheim. Served in a half litre stein mug, this beer draws a clear, light golden color with lots of streams of little bubbles rapidly and continuously rising to the beer’s surface. Has a nice, fluffy white head that’s a good inch thick when first drawn and served that settles to a sick ring lining the inside of the glass and there’s some nice lacing. Aromas of some bready pilsner malts, a bit of nuttiness, and some some slightly piney, hop notes. A very similar flavor profile, with some bready pilsner malts, a bit of nuttiness, and some some slightly piney, hop notes that provide nice amount of bitterness. Just right. The slight nuttiness note pads something unique to the flavor profile that I don’t think I’ve had before and a beer of this style. A good balance of the different flavors here. This beer has a mainly crisp, so much smooth, medium bodied mouth feel with moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish, and the malts, nuttiness, and hops linger nicely on my palate for a while in the aftertaste. A good take on this style. I would recommend giving this a try if you come across it.

It's main draw is the cheap price, other than that it really doesn't hold a candle to the sharper German pilsners. Noticable yeast and skunk flavor/aroma with this one.

Straw yellow and a white head. A hint of malt on the nose, but earthy, floral, and somewhat spicy hops dominate the aroma. Bready Pilsner malt on the palate, but noticeably different from the sweet Munich malts of Bavarian pilsners. Overall a good Northern German Pilsner.

500mL can best by May 3rd 2023

On the pour, 2 fingers of bone white fluffy head with good structure and domage formed on top of a golden yellow body. Some particulate. Some lacing occurs, but head retention isn't the best.

Aroma is very light and grainy. Some pilsner sulfur is there in a reasonable amount, but there is a touch too much yeast character.

The taste is decent and comes off as a true all grain pils, much better than Wolters, but also .50 cents more per can. On par with craft lagers I've had, but not as good as top notch pilsners. Slight bitterness in the back but not all that hoppy. As the beer warms, the sulfur comes out a bit more unfortunately giving a slight microwave popcorn and sad yeast smell that isn't quite pleasant.

Feel is full but chuggable as a good lager should be. Definitely solid, but there is a slight slickness to the mouthfeel.

Overall this was a decent deal at $6.99 for a 4 pack of 500mL cans, but there is room for improvement. This is a solid beer with a couple flaws.

My neighbor kindly dropped this off before closing up his house for the winter - give it to me so it won't go bad.

It pours a pretty golden with monster head. I started my test very cold, and the appearance was fine for it. Warming it up a bunch didn't do much for the aroma but the taste bittered up a little when warmed. It is a very clean beer experience.

Recommended. It is a great example of the style. Thanks, Orin, for the sample.

I prefer a crisper tasting pilsner but I enjoyed this one very much nonetheless.
