The beer is clear pale straw colored, small bubbles, a white head that settles rather quickly leaving little lacing.

The smell is faintly hoppy, some grass and nettles.

Starting with a white bread malt character, some citric presence and a modest clean bitterness.

Medium carbonation, small bubbles, medium small body, rather smooth, a small dry finish. Easy to drink.

A very standard pilsener IMHO.

A: Poured a honey-gold color with good carbonation leaving bubbles and a small white cap

S: Hints of floral hops, a bit of pepper, biscuit, sweet grain presence

T: Soft, sweet, crisp and light. Awesome. Floral hops, biscuit, sweet grains.

M: Light in body, but solid. Moderately carbonated and quite dry.

O: Very easy to drink, very tasty. This is how I like my pils!

Draft at Gourme Haus Staudt.

Clear pale gold, slightly hazy, topped by half an inch of lasting head.

Really nice hoppy aroma, grassy and citrusy, herbal, mildly sulfuric, crackery pils malt. Clean and fresh.

Herbal, earthy and grassy noble hop flavors hit the tongue first, followed by a touch of sweet, bready pils malt. It dries up quickly in the finish, ending with a bitter herbal and mineral bite. Very light and dry; punchy but refreshing.

Pours a pale yellor with light head. Aroma is sweet malts and a little floral scent. Taste is sweet with herbal flavors and a light hop bitterness in the finishing. Aftertaste is typical German pilsner with a heavy sweetness and light herbal hops. Pretty much your average, run of the mill Pilsner.

from notes taken in late june 2009.

500ml can. importer label has bottling date of 2009.01.08, with a best by date one year later.

clear, pale yellow straw. large 3-finger fluffy white head recedes to constant thin layer. consistent rings of lace all the way down, tho sometimes thin.

aroma: light, bready malt and yeasty notes, met by mild to moderate fragrance of noble hopping. faint sulfur note. not too exciting, but clean.

taste: hops slightly more forward in the flavor. grassy, almost herbal, with moderate, crisp bitterness and lightly resinous quality lingering into finish. saltine cracker maltiness in the background is a bit simple, but acts as a counterpoint, along with faint sulfur note to accompany the hops.

light, almost watery, but crisp with light resins in the finish. crisp, moderate carbonation with tingly bubbles that also help body.

NOTE: a second tasting of this a couple weeks later, and there were metallic notes in the aroma and taste, interfering with positive qualities.

I first tried this at a brew fest this past summer, they were giving away bottler openers. Which I found odd for a beer only available on tap in my area. Well one of my locals finally put it on tap and I can add it to my list.

Served in Imperial pint glass. The beer poured a clean, clear, bright yellow with a bright white head that had OK retention and lacing. The aroma was the typical blend of grain, hops and yeast. The taste was pretty much the same as the aroma but had a touch of skunk that wasn't in the aroma.

The body was good, a bit fuller than is typical for the style, which I enjoyed. Drinkability was good, I could have a couple of these. Overall, a decent version of the style, worth trying if you see it.

.5L, Germany, best by 3/11.

Very light yellow-gold with a tight frothy head. Great clarity, but meh.

Aroma is pretty good, with some subtle noble hop notes: grass, light sulfur and spice.

Much lighter than some German pilsners, but quite refreshing. Light biscuit malt. Clean, sturdy bitterness, though somewhat flinty and metallic. Pungent, earthy hop flavor you don't get with many German pilsners. Soft, ample carbonation.

For a cheaper pilsener, Veltins is good. I respect that they do not use hop extract. The use of real hops adds a lot to this beer, which exceeded my expectations.

500ml can poured in an ordinary glass.

A simple but worthy German Pilsener: Tasty, bitter and refreshing.

A: Pours the traditional clean golden yellow color. Medium white aired head
S: Smells grains and hops, basically
T: Follows the nose: Malts and sharp hops. Quite "biscuity". Excellent bitterness
M: Very light and refreshing body. High carbonation
D: Good

appearance; proper head and carbonation for a pils, nothing I can complain about.

smell; typical notes of hops, quite pleasant and and well balanced

taste; really super, strong hops but not overwhelming as to miss less pronounced barley notes.

mouthfeel; perfect carbonation combined with rich hops complexity almost makes a thicker feel, very hard to describe but this makes me drink more to try to isolate it.

drinkability; I could definatly drink this all night but would be less willing on a sunny day, super tasty but could be more refreshing.

One of my favorite pilsner beers for sure, highly recommend!

A: Pours light golden with lots of bubbles in the liquid. A large white thick creamy head that dissipates slowly, leaving nice lacings.

S: Malt, grain and german-style bitter hops. Some citric notes and green apples.

T: (Surprisingly) sweet malt, grain. Bitter hops, rather heavy bitterness. Citric notes.

M: Medium body and nice balanced carbonation. Long bitter aftertaste.

D: Nice German Pilsener.

I was in Paderborn Germany for a few days and, of course, was very excited about trying as many new Pilsners as I could. My hotel had Veltins, which were available in many sizes including a full liter. The beer was kinda light on flavor and color. Aroma was pretty good. Not a bad beer but not outstanding.

Bought this beer in a German supermarket a few weeks ago. Veltins is a know beer in Germany but not so overhyped as for instance Warsteiner.

Poured the beer in one of my Dutch beerglasses. The beer gives a nice white head which disappears in a short while. Little carbonation.

The is some bitterness and dryness in this beer which makes it an average German beer, siply not spectacular.

Poured from the tap into a branded pils glass at Beer Academy in Athens Greece.

A: Plenty of carbonation. Light gold. Head is 1.5 fingers foamy and bubbly with ok retention.

S: Soapy, lemony, some balance. Very subtle.

T: OK balance, light bread, some lemon hints. Easy drinking pils with not a lot of hop character. Light bitterness in the finish. Clean.

Overall: Maybe intended for a light beer drinking market (such as Greece). An Average pils with nothing too special, but also nothing really bad about it either.

Pretty average appearance with decent lacing and a pale gold color, and smells purely of floral hops--very little malt or citrus in the nose--it's very smooth with minimal carbonation, and the flavor is surprisingly light.

It's not as bitter as I expected from the nose, there are some toasty malts, and it finishes dry. It's not memorable though, just sort of passes through as a thirst-quencher but not much else. It felt like it got metallic as I went through the glass, too. Not bad, but probably not something I'd buy again.

I was very plesantly suprised to see this beer 'on-tap' at my overnight accommodation this week. I'd booked the Lamb Inn in Iron Acton because it was a Real Ale pub.

Veltins Pilsner is an old friend of mine from years ago, thought I'd reviewed a bottle on here, but no record appears to back that up.

Anyway, the three pints I had all came in tall badged glasses and looked a picture; Clear bright golden yellow body witha good firm white head, retension was good and the lacing stayed on the glass as the liquid flew down my throat.

The Pilsner/lager style doesn't produce any great aromas for my nose, this beer is no different, a few hops, grass and some flowery hints, but nothing to really get into.

The flavours and taste is typical clean German mass produced Pilsner, but a little stronger than say, Bitburger, and with more freshness too.

It brought back happy times and the days of my courting while in germany back in the 70's, glad I stumbled across it again (I have two old Veltins glasses that I use to review lagers and pilsners in).

Got a little tired of the Greek beers at the end of the holiday so I decided to pick up some german ones.

A: Poured it from a can into my favorite IKEA holiday glass. Light yellow color and a big bubbly head. Faded while drinking.

S: Grains, hops some apple/citrus.

T: Again grains and hops. Some unexpected, yet pleasant malty sweetness. Citrus. Slightly bitter.

M: Very pleasant body for just a pilsener. Medium carbonation.

D: A nice pilsener, wil surely drink this again. My favorite of this year's holiday after the Mythos Red.

Golden and highly carbonated, maybe due to the can. Carbonation gives way to a decent foamy head that fades quickly, leaving a hazy film on top. Little lacing.
Sharp hop on the tongue upfront combined with a bit of carbonation in the mix. Mouthfeel is hoppy, not complex, yet nicely balanced and dry. Finishes tart and slightly bitter making this pretty good for the type. A good and fairly common pilsner that is worth trying.

Bottle courtesy of and split w/ dkachur - thanks! My portion poured into a tasting glass.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazed golden amber with a fast-fading half-finger of pure, white, bubbly head that leaves a thin collar and no surface of glass lacing. Carbonation is fast but sparse and fine-bubbled.

Aroma: Pale, cracker-like malts, simply sweet, and a very green, earthy note, partially hop-esque and partially green apple-esque.

Taste: Probably this beer's best aspect, though that's not sayin' too much. A very traditional pilsner, perhaps a little sweeter than I'd like - plenty of sweet, residual, simple sugars overwhelm most of the hop bitterness - though there's a definite estery, slightly tart note that's not unpleasant but seems slightly out of place.

Mouthfeel: Not too much carbonation in a body of medium thickness, resulting in a pretty flat and lifeless-feeling beer, though where it is carbonated it's sort of rough and uneven.

Drinkability: Not much goin' here. Just a pretty simple, slightly skunked/off pilsner, not unenjoyable, but not one to have again. Give me a Prima Pils any day.

Schultzy's on the Ave says this one is an "exclusive" to them. I don't know about that, but I was just happy they put it in a proper pilsner glass.

A--Honey golden with sticky arches on the head, but it didn't stick around long. Very little bubbles rose up from the bottom.

S--Sweet apple with a bit of pine tree tossed in.

T--Refreshing and herbal on top and tasted strongly of honey in the back. None too complex, but pleasant.

M--Low carbonation, and not too dense, but it does linger a bit.

D--A fresh and drinkable brew and a half liter wasn't enough to satisfy my thirst. Very pleasant.

Not a lot to it, but reccomended.

A - Pale yellow, clear as water, llittle head but lots of carbonation.
S - Metallic and coppery, very little smell otherwise.
T - Very little taste, drying and a bit bitter, but not hoppy. Largley tastes of metal. Not offensive, but watery.
M - Very light, watery.

A-Clear golden straw. Thin head with minimal lacing.
S- Earthy, hoppy, light
T-Clean hoppy, herbal, some spice. I'm tempted to say Munich malts.
M-Crisp but almost over carbonated
It was kind of noisy and dim when I tried this beer, so I was a little distracted. It's an easy drinking pils.

Pours a pale yellow, huge long lasting head and lots of lacing. Aroma of continental malt and a small faint hint of charred wood. Flavor of german pils and a firm hop presence as much flavor as blunt bitterness. Quite a well crafted and refreshing pils, don't let the boring looking can turn you off this lager!

Light yellow in color. Head disappears quickly, but leaves nice lace. Smells light and grainy, slightly sweet. Lots of hops, a little too much carbonation. It's thin and light, but not watery. There's a definite note of malt/sweet dextrins that become more apparent if you let it warm up a little. It finishes with a slight peppery tingle in the throat. Not a particularly complex brew, but I suppose that's expected for a lager.
