Poured from a bottle into the biggest glass I could find in the hostel I was staying due to bad weather, which was an 8oz water glass. Nice dark amber with streaks of red, small but firm head that lingered and left just small hints of lacing. Slightly sweet upfront that quickly turns to a splendid hoppy and rich malty burst of flavor. The hint of sweetness blends with the hop and malt in the mouth making this quite a treat. The finish was still flavorful and slightly dry. The finest of the Icelandic beers that I tried during my visit. If you are seeking this out, by it in Reykjavik before heading out into the country because it became increasingly difficult to find in smaller cities.

A-nice amber color with a nice cream-colored head and good lacing

S-malt, caramel, bread, light herbal notes

T-solid malt with caramel overtones and a slight fruitiness, an upfront sweetness that is really to much, but a decent bitter hop finish

F-medium body with moderate carbonation, crisp and clean

O-this would be a much better amber if it weren't so sweet upfront

I had this at Icelandic Bar in Reykjavik on the way to Europe. Poured into a standard pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a slightly cloudy amber with a finger of creamy off white head that fades to a ring around the edge of the glass and leaves some lacing.

Smell: Malt forward with a mild, sweet fruitiness. There is a slightly off note (think old veggies) here that's messing up the smell a bit.

Taste: No off note from the smell, that's a good thing. There is a strong fruity note that reminds me of berries. Slightly bready from the malt with a hop bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with smooth, tingly carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: The off note in the smell was disconcerting but I enjoyed this beer overall. The fruity notes were pleasant.

Bottle at Islenskii Barinn in Reykjavik. From notes.

A - Deep red with a light brown cap of tan head. Bright.

S - Rich and bready with a nice juicy hop component.

T - The same. Nice rye bread sort of malt with a great juicy, citrusy hop element. Reminds me of a hoppy bock or something.

M - Mild carbonation, medium body and oh so smooth.

D - Love this one. Could session for sure. Great combination of two great elements with really rich, fruity, bready malt and the bitterness to back it up but very well balanced as well.

The self proclaimed first commercially produced top-fermented ale in Iceland. Partially true, Móri is the first commercially produced top-fermented ale since beer-prohibition finished in Iceland 1989.

Bottle says it has 7 different types of malt and 4 different types of English hops.

A - Clear amber with thick off-white head. The beer is clear at 50F, but I´ve noticed beer haze at colder temps. One definitely doesn´t want to drink it any colder than 50F!

Sm - The aroma is of enticing sweet, bready malt infused with floral and slightly spicy hops.

T - Nice malt, caramel taste with a big hop wallop. Ends in a very satisfying dry bitterness. Yummy.

M - Full body, big taste, good carbonation.

D - It is hard to classify Móri. The brewery says that the beer is under British red ale influence, yet it has much more in common with an American amber. It is a very drinkable and satisfying beer, but still miles away from the american craft-brewing standard. Definitely the most flavorsome and hoppy beer in Iceland right now.
