I don't know how Walla Walla got listed in the BA database as a brewery with a beer bar. Their tap room only serves about five WW beers and doesn't qualify as a bar, so it seems like a futile exercise to review it here. That said, here's a rundown on what's to know about this brewery:
If you stand on the porch in front of Walla Walla Brewers and look southeast, you'll see Pikes Peak and the Blue Mountains of Oregon. Look closely and you'll see that the immediate vista is reproduced on Walla Walla's beer labels (minus a few telephone poles and such).
Walla Walla gained their 7-bbl brewery from the long defunct Crab Creek Brewery in Moses Lake. It remained in storage for six years until they set up shop in a former military barracks in the spring of 2008 and began brewing their two core beers - a golden wheat beer and an IPA. Though the rest of their repertoire is still formative (and an imperial pilsner was fermenting on my visit), it would seem they're happy with the IPA as a launch point for other beers, including a winter IPA, a red IPA, and a double IPA. Happily for us, their core IPA is a very drinkable model brewed with the new Citra hops variety.
Walla Walla's tasting room is mostly a platform for actual tasting prior to filling your growler or scoring a party pig. At present, there are no tables or seats, no food, and visiting hours are limited to four hours on each of four days (2-6pm, W-Sat). Walla Walla has been hand bottling their IPA and golden wheat but will soon be contracting with a mobile bottler to make more of their beer available in regional markets. Look for their brewery adjacent to the regional airport in an area surrounded by wheat fields and wineries.
