Picked up at the Brewery.

A-Cloudy orange that clears up, two finger head with some carbonation.

S-Malt, maybe too much, pine and citrus hops. Smells like it may have turned already.

T-Too much malt, some pine, orange, there is a tad bitterness. But like the nose the taste says this beer has turned.

M-Medium bodied with some carbonation.

O-I'm hoping this beer wasn't fresh and is isn't the normal flavor of the beer. I'll try and have it again fresh at the brewery in the future.

The beer pours a nice gold color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a solid pale malt scent along with a mildly aggressive hop nose. It's not overly complex and could use some more malt flavor to balance the hop character. The taste is decent as well. It has a smooth pale malt flavor; light and clean. The hop flavor is good, but dominates the palate; bitter and aggressive. It finishes with a yeasty zing that I can't distinguish. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a decent APA. It could use some tweaking, but for the most part it's a solid offering.

Growler filled 3 days ago on site. $4 growled and a $9.99 fill. Poured after chilling down to servin temps.

Appearance - Cloudy reddish amber color with a resilient off-white head. Good webbed lacing. Absolutely no clarity but a nice looking beer.

Smell - Prominent citrus hops up front. Grapefruit and oranges. Caramel malts hold a supporting role. Fruity American hop aroma. The website lists cascade as the hop of choice.

Taste: Bittersweet citrus fruit blend nicely with a balancing maltiness that pulls its weight. There are nice punchy grapefruit tones that come through especially in the dry finish. Bitterness is moderate. This is a characteristically hoppy American ale, but is well done with a malty backbone.

Mouthfeel - Medium/light body with full and soft carbonation. Nice palate dryness following each sip.

Overall - This is a solid pale ale. Not outstanding, as it does little to stand out from the leaders of the field, but this is a solid and smooth brew and brewed locally. Enjoyable.

Poured from a 22oz bottle purchased from the brewery and into a Samuel Adams perfect pint glass.

A: Crystal clear amber-hued color. Aggressive pour leads to a one finger head that slowly fades and leaves a ring. Lacing is relatively non existent.

S: Lots going on in the nose - from hops to crisp malts to grassy undertones this APA is really full. Very full, nice nose.

T: Follows this nose down the full path. Lots of really nice hop flavors going on with full citrus then immediate piney zip followed by the really excellent malt body.

M: Creamy oily feel reminiscent of an IPA. Perfectly carbonated.

O: A really nice pale ale here. Seriously easy drinking and on a hot day it goes down smooth with zero aftertaste. Excellent. I found it to be much better out of the bottle than out of the growler.

Firehouse Pale Ale has a golden-orange colored body and a finger of tan head. Pretty good lacing and retention.

The aroma is aggressively hoppy, with a good bit of resin and bits of grapefruit.

Firehouse Pale Ale is a pretty good APA that definitely sits on the hoppy side. There is immediately loads of bitterness; the bitterness defines the hop profile more than any flavor, but there are also flavors of resin and grapefruit. The malt profile is in the background with mostly pale malts that are perhaps lightly toasted, but I'm not sure about that toasted part. As far as I can tell, the yeast is lightly fruit ale yeast.

With a medium body and moderate carbonation, the mouthfeel is solid.

Overall a solid APA that leans toward the hops, but it is defined by aggressive bitterness. Not too bad for a little brewery in CNY.
