Cortland's Sunrise Coffee Stout has a black body that is opaque at its core, and a large, brown head that has very good retention and some nice lacing.

The aroma is almost all coffee, with a little bit roast behind it.

Coffee is the main attraction for Sunrise Coffee Stout, and it is definitely the dominant flavor. Luckily, considering its prominence, the coffee flavor is pretty well-done. No traces of bitterness or acrid flavors, just a nice espresso flavor. After that coffee flavors, I can't say that there is too much going on. Lots of black, patent malt and a good bit of roasted flavors.

The body feels a little thicker than coffee itself, but not much. The carbonation is a little high, making the overall feel a little smoother than it otherwise would be.

Good beer for coffee lovers, or fans of coffee beer. Mostly one dimensional, but not necessarily in a bad way.

22oz. Bottle at fridge temp poured into a snifter.

Pours out nearly opaque black, just a bit of rubiness on the edges when held to the light. About one finger or so worth of light tan head that eventually faded to a thin patchy layer. No real lace.

Big coffee bean aroma. Espresso with maybe some ice coffee. Hints of dark chocolate mixed with the coffee. All about the coffee in the aroma. As it warms there's a bit of a hot pepper like aroma without the heat.

Again pretty much all about the coffee. Coffee grounds, iced coffee with bit of chocolate. Bitter cocoa finish. As it warms just a hint of plum like fruit.

The mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side and almost a little watery. Could use a bit more body.

Nice coffee flavors and lots of them. If this beer had some more body it could be a real winner.

A: Pours black with half a finger of tan head that recedes into a thin ring with no lacing.

S: Some roasted malts with dry cocoa notes on the nose. Faint coffee notes as well toward the finish. Not much going on.

T: Roasted malts here as with some bitter cocoa and coffee.

M: Medium-thick body with lowish carbonation, this beer is a bit watery.

O: Not a terrible beer, but it's a bit watery and lacking complexity.

Stale french roast coffee from a can in a thin, overly sweet brew that I keep forgetting I hate. And its not often I actively dislike a beer, let alone in such strong terms.

A: The beer is very dark brownish amber (close to near black) in color. It poured with a thin beige head that died down and left a thick ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: There are light to moderate aromas of coffee in the nose.
T: The taste is dominated by flavors of coffee beans—it’s like having an iced coffee.
M: It feels a bit shy of medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is easy to drink because it’s a lot lighter in body compared to most other coffee stouts.

A-Black in the glass but ruby/brown on the edges, two finger head.

S-Lots of coffee with roasted malt.

T-Starts with coffee, roasted malt and some burnt notes. Not bitterness.

M-Medium bodied, but lighter for a stout some carbonation.

O-A decent stout but would have like to seen other stout flavors (like chocolate) make a small appearance though.

22 oz bomber courtesy of suspect pours a lighter shade of black with a creamy cap of tan head. Fades at a medium pace and settles to a ring and sheen.

Nose is dominated by coffee, ground and mildly vegetal. Some chocolaty sweetness tries to poke through, but is having a tough go at it.

Man, this thing is beastly on the coffee. The other malt flavors really have a tough time competing. It is kind of bitter and really roasty. If you don’t like coffee, stay away from this one. I would like to see a blind test of this next to a cold cup of black coffee...lol. Mouthfeel is a bit on the thin side as the malts are pretty flabby. That said, I didn’t have much trouble throwing this one back by myself.

Poured from a 22 oz bomber in to a Duvel tulip.

A- Pretty much jet black, but doesn't pour super thick. A short tan head fades to a ring of lace.

S- Yup.. roasted coffee. Not much more going on here.

T- Again, a ton of coffee. a little difficult to tell what else is going on. Just a bit of dark chocolate comes through as it warms. A little bit of sour characteristic as well.

M- Medium light body and moderately carbonated.

O- Not bad. Almost on par with DFH Chicory Stout.

A - Color is great for a stout with dark amber almost black but at the base I can see some ruby hues. Head is also good on this with a dark mocha color and some good lacing.

S - Smell is of fresh ground coffee, fresh ground hops, and some roast/smoke for balance.

T - Oh no it's way too hoppy! Man everyone here lied to me about "iced coffee" flavors since it so dry hopped! I tried really hard to ignore the blast of pine but it made my mouth pucker and my stomach almost puke. I do get some balanced coffee flavors but it was just too damn hoppy.

And don't get me started as it warmed up. Man if you thought it was good cold try it warmed for 30 minutes. Borderline undrinkable.

M - Medium and kind of chewy yet hard to finish.

Overall I consider myself a lover of hops but this is ridiculous. With so much hops I can only compare it to "Green Flash West cost IPA" but with coffee added.

Only drink this if you Randall your morning coffee through dank hops.

S: coffee, like a nice expreso

T: smooth, expresso but not over the top, roastiness , not dry at all

D: oh boy I am not a stout drinker but this beer was really tasty, it was well crafted and delicious, if I find it on tap in my area I will order me a pint.

A-pours black with a tan head with average retention
S-coffee and a bit of a roasted aroma
T-predominately coffee again more bitterness in the finish than I would have expected.
M-medium-full bodied with low carbonation
O-not a bad beer, pretty straightforward and Drinkable, not overly complex.

A: Pours an opaque black in color with some medium brown highlights and very light amounts of visibel carbonation near the surface of the beer. The beer has an eight of a finger tall tan head that quickly dissipates to a very thin film covering the entire surface of the beer with a slightly thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of dark roasted malts and french roasted coffee beans.

T: The flavors are very similar to the taste but the french roasted coffee/iced coffee is even more intense and dominates the flavor of the beer. There are some lighter hints of dark roasted malts and subtle bittersweet chocolate.

M: On the lighter side of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth and almost slightly creamy.

O: Enjoyable with just enough complexity, the mouthfeel is just light enough to make this beer easy to drink and refreshing.

appears opaque black, with khaki colored head, decent lacing. as expected, big aroma of roasted coffee beans. taste, just like the smell, coffee is the dominate flavor, riding on top of the roasted malt. medium thickness, higher carbonation.

overall - a good balance of sweetness and bitter. definitely smells like breakfast at a diner.

A: dark...it's stout

S: pleasant coffee aroma, very coffee heavy on my nose

T: awesome! I didn't find the coffee flavor to be too overpowering but it is definitely a good strong coffee flavor. Also roasted malt is present on the back end. Well balanced.

M: it has a malty, rough mouthfeel. Very nice though. What I expected from a coffee stout. The taste grabs you by the back of the throat for about 5 minutes after you finish a sip.

O: great beer. I bought 2 bombers on my way through town last week. On my way back through this week I will definitely be grabbing a few more (some for me and some for my tasting buddy back home) pleased with the price and the taste. Not an everyday beer but a worthy treat for a special occasion!

The beer pours a pitch black color with a thick frothy brown head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is great! It has a nice black and roasted malt scent along with a damn fine coffee aroma. It's dry and earthy, but not overly so. The taste is good. It has a smooth, roasted flavor; dry and earthy. The coffee aspect is well done; up front and delicious. The mouthfeel is good. It is a full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a damn good coffee stout. It's fresh and bold, but doesn't over do it. Another fine beer from this young brewery.

I was lucky enough to have a growler poured right from the conditioning tank!

It pours pitch black with a creamy frothy head and very little lacing. This is probably due to the fact that it came from a growler, rather than from a bottle or straight from the tap.

It smells like coffee. Straight up, coffee smell punches you right in the face!

Taste - imagine a cold espresso. That's the flavor. It hits slowly but holy cow, does this taste just like a cold, smooth, espresso. I love how the smell/taste combo progresses throughout the taste.

I split a growler of this with my brother-in-law and we were sad when it ended. This is a very drinkable beer.
