Canned 12/21/20. From a can at room temp, ~60F.
Slightly hazy chestnut-brown, with 2+ fingers of light tan head, that leaves a thin ring, surface sheeting, an d a few spot and streaks of lacing.
Smell is sweetly nutty ( walnuts + pecan , in syrup?) , fig, date, and a not-quite-wine - not-quite-brandy aroma. A bit of bready malt when swirled. Assume that this is from the barrel. Seems more brandy-like than bourbon.
Taste is nut liqueur (again, walnut+pecan) a hint of boozy vanilla bean, leather, pipe tobacco, and pumpernickel bread crust. Light bitterness.
Feel is medium, smooth and lightly creamy, with moderate, soft carbonation tingle.
Overall, this is OK. Don't really get much from the barrel. Had this not-quite six years ago, & my impression of this is not as good. Essentially seems like a non-BA barleywine, which is fine, especially given the relatively low price. The 2015 version had definite barrel presence , that this doesn't .
If you go into it expecting "barleywine", and not "BA barleywine", you' ll probably like it. This (sort of) reminds me of Orval [I know - not a barleywine] but less sweet, &/or "Sweet Fancy Moses" ( a wheatwine from The Farmhouse), but less intense.

SOur in the mouth. Smooth feel. Great nose. MIld tingle on the tongue. Did I mention SOUR!? Made me shake my head. That said, I like it alot. Too bad not around anymore. Found a few bottles in hiding and grabbed them. If you find it, it's worth a try. Surprisingly, for a Bourbon Barrel Aged Barley Wine, it was a cheap $5.

L - turbid brown with a thin caramel head.
S - lots of sweet caramel and dark fruits. Plums and raisins. Getting some oaky woodiness and faint hops laced with booze. Every time I rock the glass, more pleasant aroma breaks free.
T - strong bourbon flavors upfront. The alcohol and barrels hit you hard, with the base barleywine taking a backseat. Slight medicinal quality accompanies the sweet raisins.
F - not as thick as I would like or expect, but creamy enough.
O - solid offering from Cortland brewing. My buddy went up and said this was the best. Pretty good for "New York state ingredients"! Oho!

Bright copper orange. vivid tan head that's creamy and lasts. nose is an exotic and very sweet frutiness. a bit of treacle. caramel, a light nuttiness. There's some alcohol on this palate. lingering bitterness too. boozy astringent finish. A faint flwoery scent from bourbon. not much of the wood barrel eutger. Harsh. dry finish with alcohol at the very end.

Vintage bottle from 2012. No bottle date. Served in a tulip glass.
Appearance: deep garnet, poured thin, started with full head that went away to nothing very quickly. Protein coagulation in the bottle is very visible and expected at this age.
Nose: slight alcohol smell, fig and sherry
Taste: very thin but still very carbonated. Warming alcohol, complex and fruity, slightly bitter, medicinal, faint hops but only in the distant finish.
Overall: this one might be a bit past its prime. I'm not so sure the solvency alcohol taste should be there after three years but it is only mildly unpleasant.

Bottle purchased at Fingers Lakes Beverage Center in Ithaca, NY.
This one pours a dark caramel brown, with some visible bubbly carbonation, and no head or lacing.
Smells pretty strong and unfortunately boozy, with some bourbon, and a bit of malty caramel.
This one falls a little bit short, unfortunately. There's not enough malt depth here to compensate for the astringent booziness. It's also got a kind of prickly taste, due to the higher level of carbonation. I get a definite bourbon character, but I also get a woody and boozy astrigency from the bourbon character that is slightly unpleasant. Overall, it does taste good- it seems the underlying base is tasty- lots of toffee and caramel- but the barrel-aging does not really seem to have helped this one, only hurt it.
This has a overcarbonated mouthfeel, for the style at least. It's a slow sipper due to the factors described above.
It's nice to see a halfway decent barrel-aged barleywine from a local(ish) brewer, but this one unfortunately fell short on nearly every front.

Bourbon nose but not getting the flavor. Slight oak but no vanilla. Lacks depth. Disappointing.
