From a 500 ml bottle to a pint glass.

Noire a L'avoine looks pretty good upon pouring. Its a nice deep brown/black and it let's almost no light through. The head is two to three fingers of off white tight foam that breaks leaving a thin film.

The smell and taste are both unremarkable, roasts and coffee dominated both elements. This beer is thin with fair carbonation. There is little or no finish to this beer, it is all up front and then it disappears.

This was my first beer from this brewer. I wish it were better, but I found it lackluster and dull.

Pours a super jet black, not even any brown around the edges, 2-3 finger dark mocha head (I poured it hard for some extra head), dissipating pretty quick leaving nice acing.

N: Smoky! Milky, Chocolatey, Creamy, almost like a porter. Wasn't expecting that smokiness

T: Wow, so mild! That smokiness is very faint, a good oatmeal, chocolate, and coffee balance. A nice easy-to-drink stout! A very faint bitterness lingers.

M: Not too too thick, just right, rich and creamy, low carbonation.

O: I've come to learn I like a milder stout between 5 and 6% ABV and this is perfect, tasty, easy to drink, not too intense. Very good, I might have to try some more beers from la chouape

A:
Pours a pretty viscous-looking black with a big creamy tan head that quickly settles to a thin but ample cap that stays like a rock. Good retention; no lacing

S:
Dark and sweet. Leather, dark fruits, roasty nuts, coffee, black pepper.

T:
Roasty. Pretty meh in this department but not offensive in any way either. Nuts, earth, coffee.

M:
Thin body (too thin for my blood) with tons of carbonation and a pretty non-existent finish.

O:
Okay stout.
This beer is far from great based on what I tasted but it is by no means bad, per se. It pours lovely and keeps a real nice head. The smell is kind of Belgian almost and is not bad either. The taste and the body are both kind of blah.
Likely won't have again; would be a good beer for someone who doesn't like big bets to get their feet wet on a stout with.

*** MY 900TH HAD ON BA!***

Poured from a 500ml bottle, mfg 2013/11/22.

A very creamy head, thick and generous lies atop a brown opaque body. Pock marks on top with decent lacing. Aroma is oatmeal and dry chocolate. Cocoa flavor with a bit of sweetness is the first flavor followed by oatmeal coming midway. Flavor tapers off near the end. Decent feel but would benefit from a bit more presence in the finish. The price on this makes me less likely to buy on a regular basis since is can get St-Ambroise for a fraction and it's better.

Bottle from Marche Omni.

A - Pours black with no visible carbonation. One finger creamy light brown head is very tight. A small spattering of lace, and a film of retention.

S - Roasted malts, strong coffee, chocolate breakfast cereal, cola.

T - Lot's of roasted malt ,a coffee note, some cola, a light chocolate breakfast cereal thing going on with some raw grain as well.

M - Moderate carbonation, medium body. Bitter in the finish.

O/D - A typical stout. Nothing special. I enjoyed it but was happy to move on to something to excite me a little more. At $5 for the bottle, I can't see picking this up again.

My first La Chouape beer and wow, what an interesting logo.

It pours a jet black color - there isn't evening an any highlighting around the edges. The head is small, dissipates to a ring of foam and leaves a small amount of lacing.

The smell is a sour and smokey mix. It's hard to describe.. other than to say it's not exactly welcoming. Something in there burns the nose!

The taste is lighter than I expected. The oatmeal, chocolate and coffee malts give the beer a simple sweetness with a touch of bitterness throughout. Its only average though..as it lacks any complexity and interest.

Mouthfeel is a tad watery but otherwise good. Drinkability is, despite the beers flaws, not bad. The amplitude of the taste is low enough that it goes down quite easily.. as long as you don't breathe it in of course.

500ml bottle poured into my Okanagan Spring pint.

L- Pitch Black, even by a strong light.
Very thin head especially considering it was a pretty aggressive pour. Interesting thick lacing... that later disappeared...

S- Strong dark cocoa and coffee liqueur.

T- Can't wait to taste this one: Tastes like unsweetened dark cocoa. With a little alcohol tingle in the end. Smells and tastes like a liquor filled chocolate. Smooth bitterness.

M- Good carbonation. I thought it was a little watery but I guess it helps with the great drinkability. Still, I think they could give it a bit more body.

D-Great drinkability. I had a hard time drinking it slowly enough to let it warm up and discover other tastes.

Didn't blow me away but I do want to drink it again. For some reaon I think it's a fun drink.
