Growler picked up today from the brewery, do not know the full story on this other than it is Palomino with whole hop leaves added, and according to the girl tending the bar it is an India Pale Ale, anways cracked this opened tonight with my dad, poured into my Stone pint glass, color is a golden orange, big one inch sdoapy white head, decent retention, not really any lacing, also some floaties in there, which seemed to be actual hops floating around, aroma consits of earthiness, grass, lemon, pine, flowers, soft malts, and toasted grains, flavor starts off earthy with toasted malt lingering in the background, some bitterness mixed with flowery flavors in the middle, very crisp in the finish with a firm dryness but also a bit of sweetness from citrus, dry, toasted, and earthy mouthfeel, medium bodied, too much carbonation, taste lingers a little bit, could drink a few glasses of this but my dad had no trouble polishing off the rest, smooth and fairly light for its style, definitely a lot of hop flavor in this one, nice surprise, it was worth waiting a long time to get the whole jug actually filled, this stuff was foaming like crazy, seemed like others enjoyed it because the guys that ordered before me got four growlers of this alone, would drink again, worth trying

Hopinator is the Palomino Pale Ale ran through a whole hops filter, or the hopinator. So it is the same brew, but it takes on additional hop oils and aroma. This is the third batch I've had of this beer, the Hopinator in this review is full of cascade, chinook, and columbus hops.

Pours rich dark golden with some orange quality, with a darker than white one-finger head. Nice retention and some good lacing left on my glass. Aroma has a good amount of some juicy hops. Grapefruit, pineapple, pear all shine through along with a light fruity sweetness. Just a real pleasing aroma full of appetizing hoppiness.

The first sensation on the tongue is a pleasant bitterness, then the tropical fruits burst around the tongue with lots of grapefruit and some pineapple. Mildly sweet but balanced with a light earthiness, kind of like a pear. Moderate, very appealing bitterness which increases on the finish and ends with a clean floral character. For a pale ale this is light on the earthy malts resulting in a very refreshing drinking experience. Medium bodied with a smooth yet prickly carbonation that matches the bittering well.

Overall, it has the outstanding hop character of a beer that is higher in bitterness and ABV, resulting in a very flavorful sessionable ale here. I don't think any pale ale I have had in a bottle can really compare to this straight from the brewery. Is the hopinator itself cheating? Who cares? The only pales that could compare might be a 100% fresh hopped pale. Great stuff.

On-tap at Bootlegger's

A: The pour is a clear light amber/burnt orange color with a thin white head on top.

S: The nose is very pleasant with plenty of orange and grapefruit along with some sweet bready and caramel malts.

T: The flavor is sort of overwhelmed by a sharp and overly intense bitterness. I love IPAs as much as the next person, but I found this one to be "off". The citrus and malt flavors are totally overwhelmed.

M: The body is medium with a tingly carbonation and that unfortunate bitterness lingers on the tongue.

D: I was expecting to really enjoy this beer, but something didn't quite work out. I don't know if it was the "hopinator" itself that caused the extreme bitterness, but it was not the experience I was looking for.

Poured from a growler into a Sam Adams tulip pint glass.

A: A crisp and copper colored body that supports a highly retentive white fluffy head. Lacing is impressive as well.

S: The nose is mild for an IPA, but you definitely pick up the hop profile and the sweet/sharp rye malt aroma.

T: The hop bitterness is bolder than the smell indicates, but nothing overwhelmingly displeasant. The sweet malt body is very nice as well and blends nicely with the hop bill used. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the sometimes lingering bitterness that stuck around on my palate well after the sip.

M: Nothing out of the ordinary, but still good; a medium body brew with mild carbonation....perhaps creamy too.

D: A very sessionable IPA, especially if you're not used to having beers as hoppy as this. I could have easily guzzled down the full growler...I actually wish I did.

Overall: Another solid brew from the local brewery in Fullerton. Good job guys! Cheers!
