Handsome brew is clear amber with a fluffy white head in the Cristal Alken flute and plenty of lacing. Sensuous mouthfeel with loads of creamy carbonation.
Unusual herbal flavor, but not so dank as the typical leafy IPA. Slightly sweet with hints of apricot. Malty but not flabby. Bready with some hints of grapefruit in the finish. Quite a drinkable hoppy brew with rather modest bitterness. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Barons Market in San Diego.

- served in a spiegelau ipa glass.
A: Lightly turbid orange coloring with a rapid-feverish rise of effervesce of macro-effervesce. Dirty white head, smallish size, with a rapid rate of depletion. Minimal lacing deposits.
S: Wet, juicy grapefruit, sugar coated, with wet fresh lemons. After a bit, some sweet caramel sneaks in balanced with wet pine and dry grains. Decent level of awareness.
T: Big fresh caramel and pine hopping upfront, sweet and hoppy mixture, buttery oak, toasty, with a wet beginning that transcends to a big, spicy dry warmth of pine and flowery grapefruit hops. Nice transistion, big hopping, sweet malting balance and overall generous hopping.
M: Tight and crisp mouthful, alcohol glow from the 7%, slippery texture with a light to medium body, Dry hopped finish, big spicing warmth of hops lingers on the tongue.
O: Very good standard, one i certianly wouldn't turn down again. Fairly aggressive hopping with a sweet caramel base for balance. Lingering spicy hop bite off the tongue for a well deserved finish. ABV of 7.0% feels right, spicy warmth, providing just the right amount of accent.

Was really expecting this to be a sleeper and actually win me over more than Knuckle Sandwich. On draft at the brewery it was clear that Knuckle Sandwich was king. Bottle to bottle comparison Knuckle killed SoCo. Given that all formats I had were super fresh, this just did not seem like a great representation of a "West Coast Style IPA".
