Something must be wrong with the bottle I got because it smelled and tasted like bad cheese. I see another review saying it was off but most acre good, so must have some bad bottles.

3.8% but has the flavour and feel of a much bigger beer! Really enjoying the puckering sour and tart lemon as well as the sourdough funky flavours to this Berliner Weisse. Not overly complex, but a great example of the style!

Nice lookin', deep orange beer. Promising.

Smell: slightly off, a little stale? Meh.

Taste: sour, clean; lemon, underripe tangerine; unoffensive, but, simple, and short. Not compelling.

Feels nice - not overcarbonated. Just right.

Overall: just no finish here, at all. - simply falls off a cliff.

Black Market's 1945 Berliner Weisse, sour wheat ale.

A: Nearly two fingers of creamy white head. Orange-y, wheat beer color. Yellowish-white in the dimple. Faint sheeting. Emaciated lacing slides right off.

S: Very light, slightly sour mix of banana peel and lemon juice. The smell alone has me salivating. Slight white stone fruit aroma. It seems like there's a faint white pepper note.

T/MF: Very soft and cool, at first. Then goes into a sharply sour peach/lemon/tangerine flavor, before receding to a soft lemon peel flavor. A hint of peach pit bitterness.

Not a hit-you-in-the-face sour, or overly complex, but it's a nice, refreshing beer.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle, into a Belgian tulip glass.

My first sour wheat ale ever. Purchased with a staff discount, adding up to $6.45. Brought it home and chilled it quickly in my freezer with some damp paper towels wrapped around it. Pours a soft, murky color with a head that comes to life quick and goes just the same. Distinguished lacing all around. Using these words and terms makes even me cringe. Let's be plain and honest here.

A nice import beer, smells tangy and you can sense that sourness in the aroma. First taste is a little strange, but you learn to love it. It's not overly sour or even very sour. It's a comfortable, balanced tartness that actually makes you want to drink more instead of puckering. Would I recommend it for a hot summer day? Absolutely. If you're a man or woman who likes a good, clean domestic beer like Bud, Pabst, Bud-Light, Coors, Molson, etc, this beer is worth a try. I believe you can only get it in a 750ml size, so why not? It's one beer and it clocks in at just under 4.00% so you won't get slammed like you would drinking some other craft. It's a great introduction into the sour ale/wheat ale genre and I can say I'll drink this again.

Pours from the 650mL/22oz bottle a very hazy, wheat-y orange yellow, with lots of visible carbonation, and even a gentle pour nets four or five fingers of foam--though it recedes down to a finger two fairly quickly, leaving lots of soft lacing.

Smell is tart, very much like raspberries, slightly wheat-y and sour yeast. Bit of a farmhouse-y funk. Good balance of sweet and sour, with a good fruity character.

Taste is much the same: sweet, sour, fruity (again, lots of echoes of raspberry), wheat-y, faint hints of a distant relative weisse (clove? coriander?). Yeasty. Sharp, tangy. Not mouth-puckeringly sour, more like "sour candy" sour--a nice sweet/sour mix. High-ish carbonation, but good light body (without tending toward being watery).

My past experience with the Berliner-Weisse style has largely been limited to the real deal in Berlin, where you the syrup is added virtually automatically. Which makes this tough to score, comparatively. But it is a solid, nice and enjoyable summer brew, tangy, sweet, and decently refreshing.

I had this beer on-tap in a tulip at 500East in Seattle.

Appearance: clear golden hue with a finger of creamy white foam. Head doesn't stick around too long but overall pretty attractive.

Smell: very sweet and fruity with a nice lemony character that I really like.

Taste: lightly sweet with a dash of sourness and a little bit of fruitiness. A very straightforward Berliner Weisse but well-made.

Mouthfeel: light body with a bright and refreshing carbonation.

Overall: a highly refreshing quaff. I dig it.

22oz bottle. Interesting and sort of on-the-nose thematic end of WWII imagery depicted on the label.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, pale golden yellow hue, with two fingers of puffy, tightly foamy, and somewhat fizzy off-white head, which leaves some low-lying ocean plume lace around the glass as it quickly dissipates.

It smells of mildly tart light orchard fruit (green apple and underripe white grapes, mostly), grainy wheat malt, a certain funky cheesiness, and some very faint earthy, weedy hop bitters. The taste is zippy and agreeable tart mixed pome fruit, with a suggestion of fermenting white grapes, a semi-sweet wheat graininess, some thankfully reduced musty white cheese, and more understated leafy, and kind of dry grassy hops.

The carbonation is nice and fluffy in its idyllic frothiness, the body medium-light in weight, and generally smooth, the tartness not really that overt as to subvert (sorry) things here. It finishes on a strong drying trend, the tart and hoppy essences asserting control, as such.

I can see why they might suggest mixing this with some kind of sweeter fruit concoction - it's not any sort of overwrought sourness that enable a sense of lacking or imbalance here, but rather a feeling of incompleteness, maybe? Whatever, it's light, adequately drinkable, and just crisp enough to keep me soldiering on, since my raspberry and woodruff (hah) syrup supplies have surely dried up.

22 ounce bomber poured into a Belgian tulip glass

A: Dark orange, amber color, head did not retain, looks like dark honey, not much carbonation, cloudy.

A: Wheat, grain, herbal, earthy, tart, sour aromas, no alcohol on the nose, smells pretty good and interesting.

T: Slight tart, sour, funkiness upfront, leans heavy on the grainy, wheat side, these flavors really come through, finishes grainy, semi dry. Not a big sour beer, very mild, I'm getting more wheat and grainy notes.

M: Less than medium mouthfeel, doesn't finish dry like most sour beers I've tried.

O: Looks great, smells great, however, I'm turned off by the grainy, wheat flavors, it's good, has some complexity, lots of flavors but I'm not a big wheat beer fan, may try this again after becoming more familiar with wheat beers.
