Brewed with 2-Row Pale and 5 Specialty malts, it's malty in both flavor and smell. A heap of Cascade and Willamette add balance to this easy drinking ale. Hole up, have a few, and tell us what you think. We’re bettin’ it’s the best Brown Ale you’ll ever have.

served on-tap @ Wilhagan's, Tuscaloosa, AL, into a pint glass

Pours a color that is more red than brown: ochre tones throughout a cherry cola base. More than two fingers of head sat heavy on top of the body. Light creme in color. Lacing was spectacular; notchy all through the drink. Really nice looking.

The aromas seemed pretty much on-par for the style. Nothing stood out as being original or particularly strong. Some browned malt: tiny degrees of chocolate and coffee grounds with a nice roasted nut sort of smell. A faint flourish of steely hops comes across every few whiffs. Nothing poor by any means but pretty average for the style. The score is affected by the diacetyl aromas that become heavy as the beer warms.

The flavors are certainly above average, however. This is a pretty unique brown ale. It tastes mostly like bread crusts with some Cocoa Puffs cereal sprinkled on them. Like the bread chips in a bag of Chex Mix, but specifically the chocolate variety of pre-packaged Chex Mix. Some earthy hops clean up the finish and compel further sips. It is all pretty darn good. As the beer warms, though, I get a stronger sense of diacetyl. The buttery flavor sort of goes with the flavor profile at first, but let this beer get up to room temperature and you will regret it. The diacetyl is the only reason this doesn't get a 4.0 in taste.

Good mouthfeel. The carbonation level seems on-point and the body size is just about perfect. This is a comfortable session candidate in terms of mouthfeel. Also in terms of drinkability; before the diacetyl starts spreading is butter taste over everything this is a nicely quaffable brown ale.

I am sure that this keg is old or that the lines aren't run enough or something. Surely the heavy diacetyl wasn't a mistake made at the brewery. Still, it was present in the aroma and taste of the beer, so I have to account for it. If I find a fresher batch on-tap here in Tuscaloosa then I'll re-review if necessary. For now, my experience with this brown ale is that it is still one of the better brown ales I've ever had. Even despite the diacetyl.

Appearance: Arrives with a mahogany colored liquid capped by an inch of foam; a few strands of lacing

Smell: Toasted bread, toffee, nuts and stone fruit

Taste: Malt forward, with a blend of toasted bread, toffee and nuts; adds a bit of stone fruit in the middle and the finish is slightly grainy and sweet

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A decent brown though I would like to see a bit more balance as the sweetness started to get to me

Serving type: on-tap

Pours a nice mahogany with a frothy tan head.

Not a lot in the nose other than some malt and sour yeast.

Taste is a nice malty punch with caramel and bread notes. If has a nice nutty finish that is left bouncing around your mouth. A very nice brown ale with good flavor.

No freshness date, poured into a pint

A- pours a murky brown creek water color with a small foamy off-white head that reduces to just a bit floating on top

S- husky malt with sweet notes of caramel, chocolate, vanilla and raisin. Light fruity & herbal hop aroma

T- sweet earthy malt with flavors of toffee & chocolate, grainy and husky, light herbal hops with a medicinal-like bitterness that lingers, somewhat unorthodox for a brown ale

M- medium body and carbonation, foamy mouthfeel and finish

O- middle of the road brown, would like to see more of the chocolate/toffee, and the strange medicinal bitterness leaves a strange linger
